Prairie Gold is a dry, highly effervescent saison fermented with a mix of ale yeast, wine yeast, lactobacillus and 2 strains of brettanomyces. This beer highlights the various yeasts and bacteria used to make it. Lemon, pear, white wine grapes, and a touch of funk dominate the flavor and aroma in this champagne like beer.

Bottle (thanks, DrFabulous!) shared a few nights ago with OldMrCrow. Catching up (from notes). clear gold pour (aptly named), white head dissipates quickly. Aroma: very nice! Citrus, grape, must(??). Funky - some cheese as it warms? White wine with cotton candy and bubble gum. Taste: quite tart and dry, slick texture, body a little thin. Maybe a bit astringent? Wine-like acidity in this. Almost puckering ... Lives nicely in the saison-meets-sour realm. Underlying sweetness catches up as the drink goes on. White wine beer?

Straw gold pour, white head. Immediate lemon on the aroma, followed by white wine and a very interesting funk. Corn on the cob? Flavor is only very gently sour: white wine and lemon juice exactly as expected from the aroma. I’d call this a sour saison rather than a sour ale proper -- think Jolly Pumpkin but straightforward in a good way. Brett late provides a really nicely drying leather. Extremely drinkable -- this one would be a delight on a hot summer’s day. I’m delighted that beers like this are being brewed in the US these days; I hope this either makes it to Washington or drives the local places to up their game.

Here’s the thing with this beer. Tonight we paired it with an ’08 Aardmonk, a Sinners ’08, and a batch 2 supplication --- and it totally held its own. We came back to it between each bottle and it was refreshing and delightful and not the least overshadowed by these other bigger and rather epic beers. That says a lot! 0.1 bump to Overall for its staying power.

Fuck yeah. This shit is he tits. A true sour. At Tyler’s. aroma is medium acidic sour, beautiful soft lemon zesty funk. Taste is tartness, lemon, light wheat, light Brett. Very nice beer. Love it. Would drink every day.

UPDATED: DEC 27, 2013 Bottle... Hazy, bright yellow ale with a brief white head The nose is lemony, acidic and mildly funky. Light to medium-bodied with vibrant carbonation. The flavor is tart and fruity up front, then tangy and grainy in the finish. Leaves a fantasticly-funky residue inside the glass. Bottle courtesy of biggsbowler!

Sampled at an ESBLS tasting. It poured a hazy yellow color with a white head. The aroma was of malts, some funk, barnyard, tart lemons and citrus with hints of vinous fruit. The taste was similar with a nice vinous quality, some funk, and hints of tart fruit. Well done.

750 ml bottle shared by jmikolich, thanks! Hazy gold with bubbly head that died quickly. Nose is lemon citrus, musty basement and oak.The flavor is a mix of tart lemons, lactic acid and lots of funky barrel notes. Also some white grape flavors. Sourness is all funky barrel, it reminds me of a chardonnay barrel aged beer. Mouthfeel is lively and the body is appropriate for the style. This was nice and my kind of sour ale. Sour from oak rather than bacteria.

Sampled at ESBLS. This pours quite hazy and could pass for a Berliner Weiss. No foam. A complex funky aroma. Fruit and at least a couple of wild yeast strains. More lacto than bret in the flavor. Pale malts. Nice fruit effects. Pears and some lemon. I am not a sour head by any means but this is quite drinkable and totally inoffensive. Call it an intro to sours?

750 into HF taster. Cloudy gold pour with small head that fades to nothing. Smell is lemon citrus, slight funk. Taste is super refreshing. Tart lemon, little bit of grain, hay. Drinks more like a Berliner of gose. I loved it.
