COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Prairie Gold is a dry, highly effervescent saison fermented with a mix of ale yeast, wine yeast, lactobacillus and 2 strains of brettanomyces. This beer highlights the various yeasts and bacteria used to make it. Lemon, pear, white wine grapes, and a touch of funk dominate the flavor and aroma in this champagne like beer.

Funky/lactic aroma is intense. Did I mention lactic? High carb, fades quick thankfully.

Hay, mild yeast funk, grapes, soured grains, lemony, yeasty bitterness at the end. Improves as you drink. Tasty.

Aroma: (8- very high quality) Cheesecloth hits the nose first, then followed by lemon. There’s some malt character reminiscent of hay and a puff of dandelion. Appearance: (2- below average) Fairly unsightly pour; cloudy gold, very carbonated (looked like soda) and a white head that dissipated within moments. Flavor: (7- noteworthy quality) Cheesecloth really takes a backseat to moderately sour lemon; the flavor trails off with some dry floral notes. Wish this had as much character as the nose promised. Palate: (4- high quality) medium body, sticky texture, lively carbonation, long finish. Overall: Just a little above middle of the road for me; still I’m happy to know that OK is making some noise in the beer world.

Bottle in Eagle with friends. Pour is hazy yellow with a small white head that quickly dissipated. Pears, green apples, pineapple, bretty, lightly herbal, straw, medicinal, light banana, mango, and slightly grassy aroma. Taste is fruity, pineapple, tart lemons, bretty, straw, a hint of banana, papaya, biscuit, bretty, and medicinal with a medium tart finish. Light body with high carbonation. Seriously easy-drinking sour with great fruit notes.

750 ml. shared bottle. Pours a cloudy pale gold with a nice white head. Aroma of citrus and barnyard. Taste is lemon, straw, barnyard, and spice. Very nice Sour Ale.

750mL shared at a tasting. Cork blew off the bottle followed by a light gush out the bottle. Pours an very cloudy pale straw color. This was a brett centric brew with lemony funk all over the place. Lots of tartness and vibrant funk. A bit of sour but mostly a lemony brett bright beer. Real nice.

Bottle. Hazy gold pour, big white head, some retention/little lace. Aroma of dust, white grape, lemon, lime, funk. Taste is tart, lemon, lime grape, white wine, fruity ester, dust. Palate is dry, slick, lactic finish. Good.

The nose smells quite tart and fruity from the get go. A careful pour into my New Belgium goblet produces a three finger thick, and more than my glass can handle, pale tan colored head. In eating the foam I get a tart, dried grassy character. The aroma has a certain cider like edge to its tartness, it definitely has a lactic character to it, and it has a straw / dried hay like pale grain character to it as well. There is a slight mustiness here as well as some funky, earthy note that accentuated the grassy side of the aromatics.

Effervescent and tart, with a soft, but present body that lightly coats the palate. There is definitely a floral, fruity character here that reminds me of fresh cut apples, a touch of starfruit, and perhaps a dry, honeydew melon like character somehow. The beer really is quite floral, and this is accentuated by a dried grass, hay / straw like malt character that also has just a touch of saltine cracker like grain character to it as well. In many ways that reminds me of a funky, dry, white wine; the vinous quality has an almost grape like quality to it and there even seems to be a suggestion of oak here somehow (likely a mix of the bugs and toasty grain character).

I wasn’t expecting a Sour beer when I popped the cork, it is pretty good though, and in truth does sort of seem a bit of a sour take on a Saison more than anything. Not the most complex beer in the world, but it is quite nice, and I wouldn’t mind getting a few more bottles of this; cellaring it might be interesting to see if the Brettanomyces and other bugs do anything to it as it ages.

pale gold color. Bubbly white head and rising bubbles. Zesty, lemon funk nose. Not over bearing sour. Very bubbly carbonation. Some funk/sour tones but nothing crazy. Lots of lemon/lime type flavors. Dries out with lemon notes. Enjoyable.

750ml bottle .. . deep yellow .. solid foam .. . hay, funky hay, and hey you, getting out my yard!! .. . clean tart mouth .. . wonderful finish .. . another winner from Prairie .. . . I feel foolish for not knowing, but what part of the horse does the horseradish come from? Its not the butt, is it?
