COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Prairie Gold is a dry, highly effervescent saison fermented with a mix of ale yeast, wine yeast, lactobacillus and 2 strains of brettanomyces. This beer highlights the various yeasts and bacteria used to make it. Lemon, pear, white wine grapes, and a touch of funk dominate the flavor and aroma in this champagne like beer.

Poured from 750 into snifter, very hazy light gold in color, little to no head, bubbles more like a champagne. Very sour upfront, then tames down to a lemon bitter. Not bad, will discuss this one and their others with the Prairie brewers at the upcoming craft beer tasting next weekend. This is no session brew, feels like I’m suckin’ on those Warhead sour candies.

On tap at Churchkey during CBC week. Pours a hazy gold with one ring of white head. Nose is big, tangerine, celery, grapefruit pith, white wine. Flavor is tart, sweet, white grape, kumquat, grapefruit zest. Full, tart finish. Needed a touch more complexity, but still nice.

Pours a cloudy yellow with medium white head. Aroma is lemon, grass, yeast. Taste is quite tart, lots of lemon, white wine, nice pleasant bitter finish. Almost a berliner weisse with a little more body. Enjoyed it more as I sipped. Still haven’t had a bad beer by Prairie...was a bit let down by Noir though

UPDATED: APR 7, 2013 Bottle. Pours cloudy pale yellow with a small white head that dissipates quickly with very little lacing. aroma is hay, lemon, yeast, funk, white wine. Flavor is about the same, lightly sweet, medium tart leading to a dry finish. Medium body, champagne-like prickly carbonation in the mouth. Very nice, but not quite as complex as the best.

Many farmhouse-style recipes dance around the white wine thing, but this one bolts straight for it with a certain amount of gusto. A tangy, fruity and dry sparkling blond ale with notes of tangerine and grapefruit, with a refreshing acidity and useful enough alcohol content. Wish I had drunk more of this when I had the chance. Too busy talking. Enough talk. More drink.

750 bottle. Pours with a lambic funk aroma. Yeasty. Lemon. Wine and white grape. Somewhat dry - but not totally. Wow. Damn good.

Tap at Churchkey for CBC. Pours a full haze glowing straw. Medium to lower head formation. Nose is funky white wine barrel, vanilla, funky bleu cheese. Taste is tart, minerally, key lime, passionfruit. Lactic, citric back end. Highly effervescent palate. Phlegm inducing heavy lactic. Very good. Refreshing.
