4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 _angst_ (1745) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - MAY 8, 2013
750 ml bottle bought @ bierkompass.de. Pours hazy golden with a solid frothy offwhite head that is rather slow to dissipate while leaving some sticky trace and thick lacing on the glass, Smell is fruity, floral, spicy, perfume-like and absolutely amazing with crackers, pineapple, passionfruit, freshly cut grass, dry wood, lemon grass, dill, white pepper corns, rose-hips, lilacs, papaya, pink grapefruit juice, clovers, lime leaves, dry soil, white grapes and dew. Basiccally another one of those beers that makes you think that you’re standing in a tropical garden just before the morning sun raises above the horizon. Taste is very fruity, floral, tiny spicy, tiny herbal and heavenly with crackers, pineapple, passionfruit, rosewater, pink grapefruit juice, lemon zest, raspberries, blackberries, white pepper corns, freshly cut herbs like cilantro, lemon balm and Thai basil, lemon grass, lime leaves, dry wood, dry soil, white grapes, ripe gooseberries, red currants, frozen strawberries, freshly cut grass and hints of lilacs and other edible or inedible flowers. Mouthfeel is soft, dry, slightly round, slightly crisp and medium bodied. Finish is floral, fruity and tiny spicy with crackers, passionfruit, lime leaves, lemon grass, white pepper corns, dry wood, white grapes, lemon balm, dill, pink grapefruit juice, lemon zest, freshly cut grass, gooseberries and pineapple. Absolutely amazing. The balance between all the different smells and tastes combines in utter perfection. Best beer so far in 2013 and one of the best beers I’ve ever tried.

Served from C&C bottle to snifter. Hazy orange hue with nice pillowy head. Smells of vibrant peaches, citrus and tropical fruit. Taste is bright peachy-sweet orange peel, slight pepper and funk, awesome. Clean and refreshing on the palate. Just a stellar beer, one of the best saisons going.

750 c&c from Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours light translucent amber with a creamy/frothy white head. Lots and lots of hop in the aroma. Full bodied. Flavor is lots of citrus, lots of light fruit, and something malty/earthy in the basement. Scratch the malty. This is super hoppy. It’s working up a hop burn - fruit and earth. Rather nice tropical fruit hints. Dry as a bone. Supercalifragalisticexpialadocious.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 mkgrenwel (466) - Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA - MAY 13, 2013
This is my first beer from Prairie, and hopefully won’t be the last. Hazy golden amber pour with a fluffy white head. Aroma is tart and slightly grainy. Lemon pith, lemongrass, lime leaf, honey. Flavor is lightly acidic up front, lending a tart, bright character. Lemon and lime, with lightly floral hops. Toast and grass. I wouldn’t call it "funk" but there’s definitely yeast character to it that’s almost funky. Reminds me of stuff like Jolly Pumpkin or Fantome with that bright, expressive, fresh tart Belgian character. I could probably find notes of just about any citrus fruit I looked for. Just that right balance where the hops are clearly bringing out and highlighting the natural fruity notes of the saison without just tasting like a beer with a bunch of hops dumped in it. Hits that spot that makes your mouth water and crave sip after sip. Honestly a bit thick and heavy for a hot summer day, but great with a meal of fish. Carbonation is on the light side, but I probably wouldn’t want to up it for fear that it would take away from the way that the acidity lingers on the tongue.
