3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: MAY 11, 2013 750ml bottle. cloudy semi-dark wheat colored body with a billowy and sitcky white head. strongly floral nose with a lot of potpourri, dish soap, wax, mango and peach notes; very yeast-heavy. the vanilla candle wax and tropical fruit esters begin to grow as it breathes, and though my first impression (cold from the bottle) was nice, as it arrives around 55 F there is an ester amplification. I have to say it’s more a design problem than execution. medium to medium-full body; medium aicd; strongly tart; yeast and chalk texture with a lot of gummi malt sugars. an abundance of tropical / fruity American hops appears through the ester cloud, but the core is bitter pine sap. even with a careful pour it’s all in suspension. perhaps you have to sit these bottles upright for a week to settle them out. so here is a beer that I would call more of raw unfiltered wheat IPA (wheat or not, the malt and yeast share similarities with Hefeweizen, flavor-wise) than anything I would call Saison. I like the effort, it has the fundamentals right to land somewhere in the area of XX Bitter (mostly pale malt, strong hop expression, Belgian yeast); but the use of American hops and doughy yeast turns it into a very bitter ester-bomb. the malt texture seems smooth by comparison to all of this, so it’s one of the things I like most about this beer.

Delicious surprise courtesy my Secret Santa. Thanks! Great beer! Aroma was big and full. Strong peach, mango and tangerine (just as the description says). Pour was a nice hazy light bubbly gold with a one finger white head. Taste was delicious. Juicy light fruits (the same peach, mango and tangerine) intermixed with a nice drying grassy hop flavor. Would be a great summer beer. Mild carbonation.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle 75 cl. Pours a clear deep golden with a lacing white head. Lovely, tropical aroma with what appears like a Bretty edge. Medium body, solid malt base with a lot of great exotic fruit accents - very sophisticated. Some Belgian yeast notes coming through with a bitter finish and some phenols. But lovely throughout. 180214

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
(bottle) pours a slightly hazy deep golden colour with a frothy off-white head. juicy aroma of orange peel, mango and heavy passion fruit, slightly resinous, with a hint of herbal hops, honey, pale malts and grape juice. flavour is the same, heavy tropical fruit and grainy müsli, with more maracuja, fresh peaches, herbal hops and a dry, light-bitter finish. medium-bodied with soft carbonation. awesome balance and drinkability!

Cloudy gold, with a thick white head. Big grass and peach aroma, very fragrant. Wow, not overly hopped, very nice balance, subtle stuff. Again grass, peach, lingering dryness but not too bitter. Excellent beer.

4.4 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Look: Pours with huge, thick (medium sized bubbles), off-white (light yellow hue) head. It has slow retention, mostly diminishing. Medium thick layer stays on top for the ride and leaves a fair amount of lacing. Color on first pour is low hazy golden (apricot, pink hue), cloudy as fck on the second pour.
Smell: Dominant apricots then some peach, tangerine, citrus, zest and lighter tropical fruits, pine, noble hop. Light acidity, sharpness suits it very well - together with apricots make it a superb fresh smell. Sweet caramel lingers around also some light funkiness, earthy, herbal yeast. Outstanding, fresh, complex.
Taste: Pine, grapefruit, zest, noble hop notes rise a bit compared to smell. Apricots still dominant. Some earthy, acidity yeast notes too. Everything is connected with well balanced, light to medium caramel, herbal honey sweetness. Also light spice to be found. Medium pine, grapefruit bitterness stays for a while.
Mouthfeel: Relatively crisp, medium body, lightly dry with fair amount of carbonation. Maybe, not sure, some warming alcohol right at start, but goes away very fast.
Overall: Love this one, fresh yet complex and offers a lot to observe and play with. Everything in good balance with nice smooth apricot notes in front.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pour is a very hazed light golden yellow with a tight white head. Nose has a nice dusty yeast with a hint of tangy spice. Lots of golden fruits from the saison and notes of it from the hops. Taste is even more dusty and yeast forward with a great balance of bright golden fruits in back. Light hop bitterness that adds to the flavor. Very dry finish, lighter body and assertive carbonation. Really nice stuff here, but gets a touch sweeter as it warms.

Bright, golden spice & hop character. Perfect amount of juicy hops accent the saison base. Foamy, frothy white head. Solid.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Really interesting stuff here. POured a very hazy lighter orange color with a white head. Aroam was of hops, mainly orangey and citrusy, some grass, brett, mild funk, more brett, did I mention brett?. Flavor was similar, huge in your face of brett and hops, mild oak and mushroomy character. Pretty solid.

75lc bottle from ølbutikken, 99dkk - cloudy yellow, smooth white head.Slightly yeasty aroma, also very hoppy, flowery hops, us hops, dough. Not overly agressively hopped though, for an american. Very nice exotic fruity flavor, some yeasty notes, some sweet malts, some us style hops, flowery and exotic flavor in general, with this dry bitter hoppy backgroup. nice one, although i’d never call it anything like saison, judging by the flavor.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
(privileged to enjoy this on tap @ Mikkeller & Friends) Pours a semi-clear golden with creamy white head and quite lively carbonation. Impressive retention, beautiful lace and impressive regeneration. Aroma is pleasantly fresh hops with initial notes of passion fruit and lychee, which after a while give way to make room for what seems like a subtle, peppery saison yeast note with hints of pickles. Very yummy. Quite equally delicious on the palate: slightly prickly, good body without bring too full, oily texture and a dry finish that emphasises driness and the saison flavour. Very much to my taste with forward hops, dry finish and the nice finishing saison twist. Best saison I’ve yet tasted.
