Prairie Noir is our bourbon barrel aged imperial oatmeal stout. We brew this beer with a huge amount of oats to give it an ever so silky mouth feel. Notes of coffee, chocolate, and toasted marshmallow can be found in the flavor and aroma of this beer. Notes of whiskey and carmel are also packed into this beer.

Sour(?) slightly sweet candyish aroma. Black with a thick foamy dark tan head which fades very slowly coating the sides of the glass. Coffee, toffee, bitter, roasty with a glassy smooth finish. A little warming in the throat at the end.

Bottle from the recent super bowl squares huge thanks for sending this my way! Pour has a very dark brown bordering on black with a cap of dark tan head that slowly fell off. Aroma has dark malt, chocolate, bourbon barrels, some roast, and faint oats. Mouth feel is medium full with good carbonation for a barrel aged Impy. Flavor has roasted malts, bourbon barrels, coffee bitterness, chocolate, and a bit more oats once it warmed up fully.

Aroma of chocolate, malt, and hints of coffee. Pours a blackish-brown with short lived espresso head and smathering of lacing. The taste has a burnt quality - chocolate, brunt malt, whiskey, and oak. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Overall, it looses its edge as it warms and becomes a very smooth enjoyable beer.

Bottle. Pours dark black with a firm tan head. Nose is chocolate but not much barrel-maybe it’s a bit too chilled. Taste is chocolate, oatmeal but very light on the barrel aging. Just enough not too overpower the beer-it’s a beer with some barrel flavoring as opposed to many barrel aged beers that are more barrel than beer. Smooth luscious body. Nice.

Pours dark with thick off white head. Somewhat dry with subtle whiskey flavor. Tootsie roll and cocoa flavors and pronounced earthiness. Finishes with bright berrylike notes.

Black pour with plenty of tan head. Aromas of dark fruit, coffee, cocoa. Flavor is more of the same with prominent bitter chocolate, chili, and some vanilla.

12oz bottle pours dark rich oily brown with a thin head. Nose is subtle fruity bourbon, spice, roast coffee and cocoa. Taste is creamy milk chocolate, dusty cocoa, coffee, bourbon is in the background and is not overpowering, nice subtle dark fruit, faint spicey whiskey, some vanilla oakiness. Overall pretty solid and easy drinking.

The bottle pours thick and viscous, looks like motor oil with about an inch of lush, slightly orange tinted tan foam, settling gradually with no real lace. Aromas of bourbon, vanilla, mocha, leather, tobacco. Flavors of dark chocolate, espresso, bourbon, caramel, vanilla; the sweetness and bitterness have mellowed (I presume) since I’ve been sitting on this for some months. The carbonation carries well without being aggressive. If impy stouts are your thing then, holy smokes this is a brew for you! Soooo good.

UPDATED: MAR 16, 2014 12 oz bottle. The beer pours to deep black color with a medium tan head. The aroma has strong coffee & chocolate notes with some roasted scents. The taste is smooth with a espresso chocolate taste upfront followed by a well balanced finish. The taste overall is is not overpowering but has great flavor. Overall a very good Imperial Stout.
