COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Prairie Noir is our bourbon barrel aged imperial oatmeal stout. We brew this beer with a huge amount of oats to give it an ever so silky mouth feel. Notes of coffee, chocolate, and toasted marshmallow can be found in the flavor and aroma of this beer. Notes of whiskey and carmel are also packed into this beer.

Bottle thanks to soonerchamps. Pours black with a small creamy head that lingers nicely. Aroma is rich and creamy. Fudge, lactose, oats, vanilla, light whiskey and a hint of mint. Taste is roasty and creamy with a very light sweetness. Bitter coffee, mint, and whiskey in the finish. Thick body, creamy and chewy mouthfeel. Solid imperial stout but the taste wasnít as rich as the aroma made it seem. I can see why some would love this though.

Man this was great. Nice roasted malt and bourbon aromas. Pitch black color with a fine tan head. Great palate with weight but not too heavy. Smooth. Fantastic blending of the outmeal roasted flavors with coffee and chocolate and charred wood. Just enough hops to pull it out of malt overload. The bourbon enhanced the flavors, not overpowered them. A great compliment. If you find it, grab it.

Served alongside the Vanilla Noir. Deep black with an oily beige head. Lovely aroma with all the usual suspects. Oak, bourbon, vanilla, chocolate. Fabulous flavor and wonderfully smooth. Rich flavor with ample dark chocolates. Mild alcohol presence. Full bodied with soft carbonation. Complex and well balanced. A top notch imperial stout.

12oz bottle into prairie teku. Jet black pour with a good 2 finger mocha head. Aroma of bourbon, char, roasted malt. Taste follows, chocolate, slight coffee, little vanilla... Not overly complex. Super silky mouth feel, easy drinking. Solid.

Bottle, thanks to Justin, 01/15/2014. Pours deep brown, nearly black, tan head rests on the surface with nice retention, small ring of lacing around the glass. Aroma is moderate dark chocolate and coffee, licorice, slightly waxy vanilla with mild bourbon finish. Taste is chocolate, grainy coffee and rich dark roast, fairly bitter middle, charred wood and bourbon. Thick, creamy body, put together well. Pretty nice.

P: Pitch black darkness peered down upon by dense fresh espresso froth. Moderate retention leaving a completely covered blanket of dark froth and lacing forming a wall that sluggishly slips down the edges. S: Robust roasted dark malts, salted caramel, vanilla bean, sweet whisky mash, cooking cocoa, milk chocolate, and a shaved coconut background. T/M: Cherry mash, cooking cocoa, aggressive grain alcohol. The vanilla and shaved coconut are there but masked by the aggressive whisky barreling. Once swallowed bitter cooking cocoa, and espresso hit the back of the throat. Super boozy and rough. Mouthfeel is medium at best and the zesty carbonation level almost ruins the entire beer. Second glass is much better and more blended. Booze has blended much better and carbonation settled its self down. O: I was excited about this given the experience I have had with this breweries offerings. At first I really had my reservation about this and wanted to pour it out. The carb level dialed down on the second glass and really joined the family together. Iím glad I continued this adventure because it really got better with every sip. Cheers!

750ml bottle in a tulip. Pours black with a beige head. Aroma of dark malts, roast and chocolate, light oak, light coffee, a little dough, and some sweetness. Flavor the same. Smooth texture. A decent imperial stout, but a little too sweet and too light on the roast and bourbon.

This is not overly complex so I understand where some of three negativity comes from. Also, the bourbon is understated. Last time I checked, this is ratebeer, not ratebourbon. Good looking beer. Some bourbon in the nose and some cinnamon or something else a little sweet. The beer is smooth with a lively carb. Some citrus in the aftertaste, but it does not linger. Lightly bitter and very dry for an impy stout. As it warms, there is some astringency, but finishes well.

Pretty average barrel aged imperial stout. Lightly ashy roasty with a nice body but the depth of flavor falls short. Malts are very one dimensional and the beer is not very interesting. Barrel character is very minimal as well.
