Bottle at The Trappist, Oakland. Colour is dark brown with small slightly brownish white head. Aromas and flavours. Dark fruits, wood, some sweetness, hints of tartness and berries. Quite weird, texture has some elements of red wine. This one needs some aging to get softer. Canít find any alcohol like some have.

16.9 oz bottle to snifter (shared with the Mrs.). Looks good; a no plaque dark amberish brown with light beige lacing. Smells sweet and boozy with notes of oak and dark fruit. Tastes like it smells with a somewhat tart mouthfeel. A little earthy and vinous as well. Solid beer, but could be more balanced and viscous. Will probably improve with age, as itís a little hot right now.

Dark brown, cola like pour, with a off-white/lightly tan head.. which dissipated to a very thin film that lingers throughout glass. Served in a Duvel tulip glass at cool room temp. Delicate aromas of chocolate, rum raisin, dark dried fruit, plum skins, and vanilla, with hints of coffee grounds. Mouthfeel is noticeably creamy and full with fine carbonation, yet medium weight overall. Dry and mouthwatering on the palate, though not "sour" or tart as others have claimed. Flavors of dried dark fruit skins, bakers chocolate, tobacco, light dusty cinnamon, and subtle, bitter coffee elegantly linger on the palate. Alcohol seems balanced with flavors, if not helping intensify/drive the flavors. I must admit, the abv feels higher then 10%.. My eyes are heavy... Unsure where this will go with age.. varied reviews worry me. I'd suggest drinking this beer sooner than later this holiday season. --- tasted while on a long journey to understand the world around me...

Tasted at Cuginoís. It poured a dark brown almost black color with an off- white head. The aroma was of cherry, dark fruits, some raisins, plums, nice roastiness, cocoa and some earthy notes. The taste was a mix of dark fruits, caramels, toffee, cherry, some earthiness and cocoa Very tasty.

Bottle. Pours a deep copper color, with an off-white head. Rich toffee, sugary, dark fruit, vanilla, oak, green apple, tartness, and barrel. Tastes slightly infected to me, unless that was intentional. I can see this beer going down hill.

Great beer with a dark brown pour.. and light tan head. Toffee notes are prominent. Fairly balanced flavor for being held in bourbon barrels.

Bottle. Pours brown with a tan head. Smells very chocolatey and slight raisins. Has a very thick mouthfeel, lots of chocolate, sweet, lots of carbonation which is a great offset to the thick mouthfeel. Itís very unique, very different. It is great.

Pours a very dark brown, almost black with a tan head. Aromas of chocolate dripped oak, dark fruit, some ash. Taste is similar - cigarette butts, oak, slightly tart, vinous. Decent roast in there too. Finishes slightly tart, sweet and boozy. I like this a whole bunch.

Once you are a few sips into the beer, you can begin to get hold of the complexity of the aroma: Brett, funk, a woody-sour scent that you get in a beer like La Folie or Cuvee de Jacobins, rummy figs and raisins, bourbony spice. It has the appearance of a very well attenuated beer - bubbles and lacing hang around well after the pour - the beer can pour hard to generate this staying, velvety, thin layer of bubbles. It honestly just tastes like an amazing barrel-aged old ale/barleywine-style ale with brilliantly utilized Brettanomyces characteristics including tartness and funk that complement what is already great about this style. But I can see people not appreciating this beer.. itís big in a way that takes, I think, a real sippiní-type-session to understand. And probably a love for wild yeast, because folks, this is a funky one.
