A great Christmas Ale; a very pleasing nose with hints if spice and vanilla. It pours dark with a nice creamy head. The taste is a bit unique with almost a sour start leading to a full mouth experience. This is not a beer for the new craft beer virgin, but it is a beer they will grow to love.

Bottle shared in London - picked up somewhere in the US. Pours deep brown with a frothy, off-white head. The nose has a lot of ripe fruits, some brown bread, dryish toffee, a bit of orange peel. Medium sweet flavor with further toasty bread, some ripening fruits, mild dates, slight toffee. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly warming on the finish with more dates, berries, moderate toffee, dried bread. Very nice.

Bottle: Thanks, Jason! Gusher!! Just a light crack of the cap & this beer was everywhere. First gushing "old ale" Iíve ever seen. Huge, volatile head, thick beige foam; the beer is murky, swampy looking brown. Aroma has some tart & sweet red grapes, raisins, caramel, oak, a touch of maple, & a nebulous sour twinge. Kind of strange for an old ale... Messy & all over the place. Unfortunately the flavor is the same way... Tart, wine-like grape & raisin notes, prunes, cola, mild anise, burnt caramel, & a very astringent tannic finish with an oak-y overload. Certainly overcarbonated for an old ale... Prickly carbonation. The first complete disappointment Iíve had from Prairie... It just doesnít mesh well at all.

P: Pours a murky brown swamp body with a khaki airy head. A small amount if milky off white bubbles congregate around the edge if the glass. S: Rich aroma of Borbon soaked oak, chocolate, brown sugar, plums, sugared prunes, tart grape presence, star anise, pencil shavings and plant bulbs. T/M: Chocolate and timid booze arrives on the first sip. Dark fruits, licorice, ground cumin, burnt toffee and the faint grape tartness shows up as well. Iím picking up some strange flavors that bring hoisin sauce to mind. Molasses drizzled scorched grains linger in the background after the swallow. Medium body with subtle carbonation and finishes semi dry. O: Iím not really feeling this Prairie Ale. Iím a huge fan of the brewery but this one seems like a mess. It gave some off flavors. While it was complex the flavors didnít play well together. Good but not great. Serving type: bottle
