Vanilla Noir is Prairie Noir aged on organic, fair trade vanilla beans, and letís just say it takes a lot of beans! The vanilla flavor compliments the whiskey barrel aging process and adds a delicious layer to the beer.

12oz waxed bottle served in a Prairie teku. A - Pitch black body with a firm espresso head on top. Retention is nice and uniform. S - Rich chocolate, whiskey, oak, alcohol, charred chicory, vanilla. T - Roasted/charred chocolate malts, vanilla, whiskey, grassy/herbal hops, chicory coffee, thereís sweetness but it canít compete with the roast and dry wood. The finish is semi-sweet and slightly bitter with a very dry close. M - Lighter body than I expected, but still quite smooth, extremely dry finish. The vanilla is light but adds a nice touch to heavily roasted malt base and melds well with the whiskey. The body was light and smooth but seemed to lack that decadent feel I was hoping from an oatmeal stout. Serving type: bottle 01-12-2014

Bottle shared downtown during RBWG Asheville Late-Nite. Cheers! Pours clear, dark brown with a bubbly-foamy tan head. Big vanilla pod aroma, with undertones of cocoa. Medium to heavy sweet flavor, with rich chocolate character, vanilla, light earthy bitterness. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly warming on the finish, with notes of baking cocoa and oily vanilla. Solid.

I was damn excited when I got my hands on some newly-released Vanilla Noir. My excitement turned to fear when I read recent reports of infected batches. That angst stayed intact leading up to the tasting. "Looks okay," I thought. And it did. Black body, big tan head. Smell rekindled my concern. The spicy vanilla tones and dank oak smells momentarily fooled me into thinking it might be tainted after all. Taste brought things back into focus. No infection here. Just coffee, chocolate, bourbon, and decadent vanilla. A whole lotta vanilla at that. Plus tons of booze. This is a huge, rich Stout. Good thing, too. Itís also a hefty price tag.

Bottle. The pour is black with light head. The aroma is all vanilla and chocolate. The taste is top notch. A lot of vanilla, but needs more bourbon overall. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. A- Whiskey, vanilla, campfire. A- Black color, black liquid, brown head. T- Toasted marshmallows, vanilla, whiskey, dark cocoa. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, complex finish. O- Whoa. This beer has some balls. Very whiskey and vanilla forward. A tinge of sourness from the mash I suppose and I bit of bitterness. The whiskey and vanilla are definitely at the fore front of the beer and create a toasted marshmallow flavor. While itís not my favorite Imperial Stout by any means itís a very fine one.

Pours dark brown with a tan head. The aroma has dark caramel, vanilla, chocolate, smooth roast, bourbon and light oak. It has a medium / full rich body with a light amount of carbonation. The flavor starts not quite as rich as the aroma with more of a dry malt aspect. It has dark chocolate, vanilla and minor alcohol. The finish has more char, vanillla and bourbon. Excellent imperial stout.

Pours an opaque dark brown with a finger of khaki head with good lacing. Aroma of vanilla, roasted marshmallow, whiskey with a little bit of chocolate covered raisin. Taste has vanilla and a hint of sweetness with milk chocolate, whiskey, roasted malt and walnuts. Finishes with some roastiness and a bit of alcohol warmth. Full mouthfeel with low/moderate carbonation. Very well put together with nicely balanced and blended flavors that evolve as you drink. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours thick dark black with a creamy dark cinnamon beige head. Aroma of the vanilla is divine bringing sweet but balanced vanilla beans. Flavor brings the sweet vanilla and light sweet whiskey oak, so smooth for the ABV! The body is creamy and balanced so well, carbonation there but lighter.

Bottle to glass. Pours a thick deep brown to black color with a thin brown head. Aroma has a nice mild vanilla character over a roasted malts and whisky background. Flavor is full of whisky with a light vanilla sweetness. Creamy mouth feel. Quite tasty.

Bottle. Pours black with a modest mocha head. Smells very rich. Aroma is vanilla, chocolate, caramel, nutty, bourbon. Taste is similar. A heavy sweetness paired with a medium bitterness that builds, some alcohol apparent. Full bodied and silky with soft carbonation. Very astringent finish.
