Vanilla Noir is Prairie Noir aged on organic, fair trade vanilla beans, and let’s just say it takes a lot of beans! The vanilla flavor compliments the whiskey barrel aging process and adds a delicious layer to the beer.

12oz waxed bottle served in a Prairie teku. A - Pitch black body with a firm espresso head on top. Retention is nice and uniform. S - Rich chocolate, whiskey, oak, alcohol, charred chicory, vanilla. T - Roasted/charred chocolate malts, vanilla, whiskey, grassy/herbal hops, chicory coffee, there’s sweetness but it can’t compete with the roast and dry wood. The finish is semi-sweet and slightly bitter with a very dry close. M - Lighter body than I expected, but still quite smooth, extremely dry finish. The vanilla is light but adds a nice touch to heavily roasted malt base and melds well with the whiskey. The body was light and smooth but seemed to lack that decadent feel I was hoping from an oatmeal stout. Serving type: bottle 01-12-2014

UPDATED: AUG 24, 2015 At Rich’s Massive Cellar Emptying Tasting. Deep brown with red highlights, candy floss and vanilla. Med-light bodied this shit is infected and taste medicinal or like battery acid. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2014 draft. Aroma is vanilla and wood. Appearance is back with a creamy, tan head. Taste is vanilla that turns to the dark malt mixed with booze and the wood. Palate is dry from the barrels and the booze. Overall, a well done beer. Would have liked to try fresh to see how hot it was, but it is very well blended now. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Nose of vanilla, coffee, tart, bretty aspect, some grapefruit. Quite bretty at first, with a sour edge, though that diminished as it opened up, being taken over by the Vanilla. It was far from unpleasant, though I am not sure it was intentional. Dark brown, with lace. Dry and crisp.

12oz bottle pours a dark brown/black with a large light tan head. Sweet fruity aroma with Chocolate and hints of vanilla. Taste of smooth medicinal vanilla, alcohol, and chocolate. Not by favorite of the Noirs.

Dark pour, small had, low carbonation. Vanilla and coffee in the aroma but also a heavy funk note that im not sure was intentional. Vanilla is present but again this bottle is heavy on the oak and quite funky.... If you told me it was a dark sour id agree, but im not certain that was the brewers intention or what other bottles have been either.

Bottle from Beerenberger. Aroma of chicken coup. Taste is a little chicken feather and Greece. Vanilla is there, but not well integrated with coffee.

Bottle... This beer lifts! Pours murky and dark brown with a minimal, creamy, off-white head. Decent retention. The aroma supplies heaps of beautiful, bright vanilla and candied nuts. Not much else going on here. Not much else needed. Full-bodied and creamy with tingly carbonation. The flavor presents tons of dark chocolate, toasted nuts and vanilla with a smidge of cardboard-like oxidation in the aftertaste. Kudos to biggsbowler for supplying this world-class treat!

Bottle. Date unknown. Pours black with no head. Aroma is oak, char, boozy. Taste is the same with some vanilla/licorice notes at work. Not the best combo and the least favorite of the series. That said, I finished the bottle.
