COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Vanilla Noir is Prairie Noir aged on organic, fair trade vanilla beans, and let’s just say it takes a lot of beans! The vanilla flavor compliments the whiskey barrel aging process and adds a delicious layer to the beer.

12oz waxed bottle served in a Prairie teku. A - Pitch black body with a firm espresso head on top. Retention is nice and uniform. S - Rich chocolate, whiskey, oak, alcohol, charred chicory, vanilla. T - Roasted/charred chocolate malts, vanilla, whiskey, grassy/herbal hops, chicory coffee, there’s sweetness but it can’t compete with the roast and dry wood. The finish is semi-sweet and slightly bitter with a very dry close. M - Lighter body than I expected, but still quite smooth, extremely dry finish. The vanilla is light but adds a nice touch to heavily roasted malt base and melds well with the whiskey. The body was light and smooth but seemed to lack that decadent feel I was hoping from an oatmeal stout. Serving type: bottle 01-12-2014

Pours a dark mahogany brown with fluffy tan head. Aromas of coffee, vanilla, and chocolate. Big vanilla flavors with an astringent chocolate finish.

355 ml bottle at home from trade with RobertDale. Thank you Bob! Dark brown almost black color with nice beige brown head. Aroma is roasted malty, full of vanilla, cocoa, some licorice, chocolate, caramel, light wood, some smoked notes when it gets quite warm. Heavy sweet and light bitter taste like aroma. Medium to full silky oily body with soft carbonation.

A decadent treat throughout. Initial nose is fudgy vanilla and bourbon, and it opens up really nice. Thick throughout, and warming, but never hot - even though it’s quite sweet. Very smooth.

(12oz bottle) pours a medium deep brown, with wispy tan bubbles on top. Nose of huge vanilla, barrel, tobacco, light barrel char, touch bourbon, and maybe some roasty sugars. Taste is equally delicious, tons and tons of vanilla bean, medium chocolate, whiskey but no heat really, smooth, milky character. The body is straight medium. A really great beer!

Poured into a teku showing very little head despite an aggressive pour. Pours big black and oily. The nose shows rich vanilla, good notes of caramel that lightens up the roasted malts to be akin to a caramel latte. The palate shows very light carbonation and very full bodied. Flavors show a lot of the same on the nose - rich vanilla and barely any roasted malts. A light latte-like bitterness that is balanced by a lactose sweetness on the front end. Could have gone a little bit easier on the vanilla but still very good.

2015 bottle from Tanakaya. Huge vanilla nose with maple syrup, cacao and lots of oak. Sweet, but not cloying on the palate. Medium light to light carbonation with an almost oily texture. Toasted coconut, more vanilla, cacao, maple syrup and lots of oak come out as it warms and on the palate. Warming finish with lingering whisky notes. Another beast from Prairie.

A short medium khaki head falls back to a solid ring encompassing complete darkness... alcohol drapes with defined cave drawing-like lace following each sip

Exceptional... highly approachable, nearly quaffable, with solid complexity and medium plus intensity, very well orchestrated x 2... big cake badder notes with the vanilla addition working with black malts to envelope the barrel and spirit notes on the aroma while allowing them to flourish on the palate... nutty caramel barrel character with subtle coconut and marshmallow, clean whiskey notes void of any offensive alcohol or heat on a soft, creamy, cohesive, medium plus body, an array of dark fruit meets the spirit and barrel notes adding juiciness and depth as the rich, flowing chocolate layers continue on into the residual... nuances of cola, coconut sprinkled chocolate cake donuts, dark chocolate milk, subtle maple and coffee, all while sustaining enough oak and malt bitterness to keep everything very balanced and flowing

12oz bottle code 28241NH1 21:02 27215, released fall of 2015, frig storage, served at 53° into Orrefors Difference Porter snifter
