dm9831 (601), Monee, Illinois, USA Mar 10, 2008 cloudy apricot, slight head. nose of hops, grapefruit and evergreen. nice and hoppy in the flavor with citrus fruit flavors. pretty bitter in the end. what a nice ipa. Cornfield (4343), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA Feb 8, 2007 Very tasty treat for this hophead. The body is a slighlty hazed pale orange and the head is just a nudge off-white. Hops jump out immediately, grapefruit, pine, lemon zest, and a touch of earthiness, almost completely covering the sweet underlying caramel. The flavor is well-balanced between both elements of the equation, but the hoppy bitterness surges forward at the end and lingers long, long into the finish. I hope the remaining Prairie Rock brews more beers of character such as this one. Prairie Rock Brewing Company, Elgin, IL
SubstanceT (1087), Saint Louis, Missouri, USA Feb 17, 2006 On Tap in Elgin. Served in a huge pint glass. I cant recall what type of glass it is really but it is more skinny than a pint glass and taller but not as large as a hefe glass. Orange to copper in color, hazy with a thin to medium long lasting crusty residual head. The nose was strong up front with lots of hops and citrus with a great backbone of malty softness. The taste was very strong up front with hops but not overpowering with present smootheness from the malts. Alcohol is there but not so strong. Citrus again in and out. Wonderful balance really quite smoothe. Ya know, I am very impressed with this beer. Really a big turn from the other stuff that I have had from Prairie Rock. Worth the trip out of the city.
