UPDATED: DEC 16, 2013 375 ml. corked & caged bottle sampled @ Kerstbierfestival Essen 2013. Some 2700 bottles made apparently. Reddish dark brown with a tanned head. Nose is wonderful, vanilla, lots of cocoa, sweet, wood vanilla, caramel, sweet mocha malts etc. Taste is lovely even if not as full as I had hoped going by the smell, sweet, mocha, milk chocolate, plenty of wood vanilla, sweet toffee, some bourbon, sweetish brown sugar. Body is a touch lighter than expected. Pretty good but not on par with cognac, I feel like it could have been even better, still pretty good stuff here.

Bottle 906 from Beautiful Beers. Gentle pop when opened. Beautiful pour with tight creamy head and gorgeous scent of malts and bourbon. Malty caramel sweetness reminiscent of the Quadrupel with a gentle but strong bourbon finish. Absolutely gorgeous. Had many BA beers recently but this one tops it. Stonker.

Top!

UPDATED: MAY 5, 2015 37.5cl bottle served in a Prearis glass. Pour dark brown with a long lived head. Aroma is pretty lacklustre with very little presence. Taste is fruitcake, bourbon, chocolate and vanilla with the buttery bourbon notes being more evident as it breathes (or warms). Truly excellent quad and I would say better than Mikkeller’s Monk’s Brew (Bourbon Barrel Aged) as the carbonation is slightly less violent and the bourbon more pronounced but otherwise you would say they were separated at birth.

shared bottle. bought from andy at BAB 2014. all i can say is that this version is way better as the cognac. poured a hazy dark brown colour with a nice lasting mocha tan head. caramel, nuts, oak, bourbon, (more barrel hit as the cognac). raisins, dark fruits. great beer again!

375 ml bottle. #544 to be precise. Pours a very dark brown with moderate head. Aromas of dill, wet wood and very light wine/bourbon. Flavors of raisins, light bourbon barrel, and sweet malts. Wow.

Keg. Pours very dark brown, with a small foamy covering. Aroma- vanilla, milk chocolate, cocoa, bourbon, hint of dark fruit. Taste- plenty of vanilla sweetness, milk chocolate, nutty, dark fruit undertones, oily and slick in the mouth, sticky sweet finish. Excellent.
