Bottle from Vinmonopolet. Very dark brown. Smooth, light chocolate. I’d like more character in a beer of this strength. Deceivingly smooth.

Bottle. Pours a deep cloudy mahogany brown body with a huge rocky off-white head. Nose is bread dough, nuts, raisins, caramel and hints of nougat and fig. Taste is dark roasty coffee tones, caramel, bitter herbs, medicinal bitterness, raisins and hints of alcohol, toffee and bread dough. Full body, medium carbonation. Although the coffee-infused quadrupel idea is highly innovative, it really doesn’t do much for me. Also, the medicine-like bitterness so pervasive in the creations of Vliegende Paard Brouwers that I’ve tasted so far doesn’t exactly aid in its drinkability. Come to think of it, I’ve tasted very few nice quads that have been tampered significantly with, so I’m tempted to conclude that quads are best in their traditional format. Prove me wrong, world! :-)

33cl bottle from ABCBeers, shared with brewing buddies. Thick creamy off white head. Clear deep burgundy pour. Coffee in the aftertaste. Well hidden alcohol. Another lovely beer from this brewery.

Aroma of dark malt, caramel, dark dried fruits, roasted coffee. Flavour is dried fruits, medium sweet, with a good lasting coffee bitterness in the aftertaste. Most of the coffee is in the finish. Definitely enjoyable, though I had hoped for a stronger coffee flavour.

’Dry coffeed’ version of their quadrupel, i.e. lagered on Costarican coffee beans. Creamy, dense, stable, beige head, colour dark bronze. The aroma actually reminded me of Irish coffee and cappuccino at first, after which dried fruits, caramel, liquorice, toffee and dates came forward. Dark fruity taste, full, rich maltiness, in the end very much dominated by the coffee, which unsurprisingly tastes as real ground coffee beans, bitterish, aromatic with warming alcohol, velvety mouthfeel further adding to the ’cold Irish coffee’ experience. Nice one from this beer company - again.
