pours dark brown, creamy frothy head. aroma of slight dark fruit, wood and spice. Taste, I get a very nice blend of the wood, spice and dark fruit. not one out does the other. the yeast is a bit of a heavy hitter in this one but does not overwhelm. Very balanced and one of the better Quads to have fresh. Not as complex as many others but creamy, smooth, easy to drink and delicious. Soft on the palate.

Not the best thing to come out of Proefbrouwerij, but a good beer. Dark and malt, so more of an abbot style than a quad, which I consider to be more like a tripel in color and flavor. Surprisingly dry, cardamom, and a little fruit. Nice white head, a great looking beer that is solid in its own right but doesn’t stand up to Achel, Rochefort, etc.

(Bottle, Café Rose Red, Brugge, 23 Oct 2014) Dark brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, slightly fruity nose with notes of caramel, raisins, prunes, toffee and a touch of chocolate. Malty, slightly roasted taste with caramel, raisins, dark bread, chocolate and a generous spicy bitterness in a finish with a certain alcohol bite. Full body, with a certain sweetness. Quite complex, still in excellent balance. Tasty and solid quadrupel. Very nice.

Nuovo assaggio di quadrupel. Birra molto piacevole ricca di sapori con un finale amaro. Curioso per una prova d’invecchiamento. be continued....
