Stubby bottle 330 ml at home, into a trappist glass. ABV 10% Deep brown colour, transparent when hold against the light and getting some red ruby shades. One finger of thick, light beige head, with very good retention, medium lacing on the glass. Aroma has toasted malts, caramel, dark fruits, cherries, spices. Taste is quite coplex, with toasted malts, caramel, orange peel, spices, alcohol, dark fruits, plums, raisins, mildly bitter on the finish and the aftertaste, with long duration. Full chewy body, soft carbonation, sticky and yet dry palate. Great quad.

Pailhead (4820) - Brownstown, Michigan, USA - MAR 22, 2014
Bottle: The aroma consists of dark fruits, light cocoa powder, Belgian yeast, spice, cola, caramel, and a touch of alcohol. It pours a transparent (when held to the light) reddish-orange with a three finger khaki head that has very good retention. There is a lot of sticky lacing left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with dark fruits, light chocolate, and a touch of cola. The finish has clove, brown sugar, roasted nuts, bitter orange peel, and a hint of alcohol. It’s medium bodied with soft carbonation and a slightly sticky mouthfeel.

750 ml bottle into chalice, bottled on 10/9/2013. Pours moderately hazy deep ruby brown color with a 1 finger dense khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big cherry, orange peel, raisin, plum, pear, apple, red grape, caramel, brown sugar, toast, brown bread, light chocolate, clove, herbal, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt and fruity/earthy yeast notes; with good strength. Taste of big orange peel, raisin, plum, pear, apple, cherry, red grape, caramel, brown sugar, toast, brown bread, clove, pepper, light chocolate, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Moderate earthy spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of orange peel, raisin, plum, pear, apple, cherry, red grape, caramel, brown sugar, toast, brown bread, clove, pepper, light chocolate, herbal, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity of fruity/spicy yeast and dark/bready malt flavors; with an awesome malt/yeast flavor balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, and fairly slick mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is an incredible quadrupel! All around awesome complexity and balance of fruity/spicy yeast and dark/bready malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to sip on for the big ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.
