Bottle... Clear yellow lager with a mid-sized, wispy, white head that’s gone in a flash. Sweet aroma with notes of canned corn, light toffee and peppery hops. Pilsner malt and honey flavor with an undertone of hominy grits. Only a suggestion of hops. Medium-bodied with Champagne-like carbonation. Lightly oily with a crisp, then mostly sweet finish.

Bottle. I went to a friend’s house of Poker night and broke out the good stuff. Poured a lighter yellow color with a smaller sized off white head. Aromas of corn and some graininess. Tastes of corn, sweet maltiness, and grainy. Yep, it is a Pale Lager alright.

Thanks to my sister for dragging this one back from the Dominican. Very pale golden colour, thin white head. Pale malt aroma, a trace of grassiness. Quite clean tasting. No skunkiness, no metallic character. Flavour is quite thin and non-descript but there is a bit of malt some light grassy hop flavour. Pretty quaffable and much better than I would have thought.

1.4 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20
Typical South American style pilsner style beer. Only this one has a funky smell. Quite odd actually. It MUST be consumed ICE COLD.

Cheezy smell. Pale lager, with big bubbles. Malt story, with a bit of an acidic bite. Lacey. Aggressive carbonation. Minimalist drinakbility.Stephan’s bottle from his recent trip.

1.9 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
Smelly cat and sweaty corn. Pallid taste, sharp and crisp but oily and slick on the tongue, flavors center around corn and piss, but it’s not too intense, and it can pass for drinkable if you’re just looking for something refreshing. Another Generic International Lager.

Well, this isn’t the greatest beer in the world and the "pilsner-style" description is pushing it a bit, but it does have a little malt and hop character, which is more than can be said for the scores of boring Caribbean lagers that I had sampled before. Bottled, le Lezard Vert, Guadeloupe.

0.7 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 2/20
Pale gold, with aroma of slight pale malt and thiols. Bland tasting with slight corny malt and some off flavors. The guys who rated this a 4.9 and 5.0 should be permanently banned from this site, right after they are soundly beaten with green beer bottles.

UPDATED: JUL 3, 2005 Re-Rate July 1 2005. Can. In substantially better shape than the bottle I sampled. Pale yellow, smallish white head. Vegetal corny (?) aroma mixed with grain and muted hops. Similar flavour, little less corn in the flavour. Remind me of a slightly less malty Heineken actually. Meh. Uninspired but I could knock back a few on the beach if given the opportunity. 5/3/5/2/10 <P>
Original Rating Bottle. Courtesy or Mssr. Poirier. Pale macro yellow with a small white head diminishes fast. Bit hops if grainy and or mildly skunky.Touch of bitterness, fairly watery. I also have a can from the Mattecky Honeymoon in the fridge, perhaps it will have fared better on the trip.

Light golden with a small fizzy white head. Aroma of crystal malt and saaz hops. Smooth grainy flavor with some corn and a dry crisp finish. Light and refreshing, but your typical standard lager.
