Bottle from Oddbins, Blackheath. Dark amber pour with a beige head. Bags of smoke in the aroma with some raisin and chocolate. Flavours of smoked salmon, raisin and dark fruit. Smoky finish. Quite nice.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines; dark opaque chestnut brown pour with a big frothy off white head, smoke peat aroma, taste is very smokey with some other flavours trying to get noticed but failing, the only other taste is plain chocolate, also the beer has some soapy mouthfeel. Not for me this one.

Bottled 26/07/14. A hazy dark chestnut coloured beer with a whitish head/ A decent dunkelweizen. Nice wheaty and banana notes and a hint of chocolate. A touch of unwanted sourness in the mouth. It’s nice enough though.

Bottled, 330ml from Oeno, Cirencester, Gloucs. Really dark brown with cream head. There is a damp bonfire aroma on opening, wet squabs, this leads to quite a charry flavour, a little raw perhaps then a dry bitter chocolate note. Not a beer to relax to but it does challenge the taste buds.

330ml bottle from Drygate. Dark brown, big foamy head. Sweet flowery chocolate aroma. Smokey rubber flavour. Sweet and unusual. Not a typical dunkelweiss more a smoked dunkel.

Keg at Euston Tap, London. Hazy brownish copper shade with wisps of tan head. Opens on the nose with a smoky rauchbier-like aroma. Plenty of caramel malt, berry fruit and smokiness in the taste. Body is good and fairly creamy in mouthfeel. I’ve been hankering for a smoked beer lately and this seemed to do the trick.

Draughy @ Euston Tap. A dunkelweizen on the sweet side with mild clove, chocolate and herbal notes. Hoppier than the germans.

330ml bottle. Pours dark brown and very frothy. Aroma is very smoky, which isn’t quite matched in flavour which is sweet and smoky. Good but not great

Bottle. Muddy brown big fizzy head that goes quick to leave very little. Definite smoky aroma, mixed with almost sharp tangy malts, slight metal. Dark berry. Astringent. Thin mouth feel with dark tart berries, roasted quality, more bitterness. Some lively carbonation helps it’s cause but this beer doesn’t work for me. Thinness and smokiness not a great combo. Fruits and malts too coarse without mellower background.

Bottle at The Garabaldi, Northampton, Saturday 7th June 2014 with Bob & Bill This was Bobs beer but he absolutely hated it and insisted we share it with him. It was certainly smokey but not in a pleasant way in fact it seemed a little chloriney amongst the ashey smokiness, certainly a chemically edge. Bob described it as thus...’it tastes like burnt newspaper, it’s as much fun as shitting in your hands and clapping’ Loz said.. ’it’s like burnt sasparilla or dandelion and burdock’ & finally Bill suggested ’It’s deeply unpleasant, the worst beer i’ve had this year’. So all in all not great. A4 A3 T3 P2 Ov7 1.9
