NOTE: As explained by the brewery in the commercial description, this beer is often made to varying recipes with different hops. Please make sure you put your review under the correct entry. The hops used are clearly identified on the label so thereís no excuse!

Everyone likes a pale ale and weíre no different. We like to mix up the aroma hops a bit and you will find that Pale Fire comes in different versions sometimes. We have hopped with Mosaic and Amarillo, Amarillo and Citra, Nelson Sauvin and others including the legendary Hop X, an English trial-hop being developed by Dr Peter Darby at Wye Hops.

Bottle at home in London. Pours just slightly hazy but vibrant gold with a rich, lasting white froth head. This smells gorgeous, with loads of fresh citrus fruits, tangerine, juicy orange, some dry grapefruit. The flavor doesnít quite match the nose in terms of goodness, but itís decent. Lightly sweet with a mellow citrus character, hints of pine needles, some pale malts. Light bodied with fine, spritzy carbonation. Fresh and clean to finish with suggestions of white wood, lemon, tangerine, pine needles, pale malts, and grapefruit. This one starts like a rocket but fizzles out a bit as you work through it. Very drinkable, but Iím left feeling this beer could use a jolt.

Bottled, 330ml from Oeno, Cirencester, Gloucs. Gold with white head. This definitely didnít have any alternative hops highlighted on the bottle, so in here. Good, dry hop impact, citric, gooseberry, grapefruit notes, lightly malted body, dry and bitter. Pretty decent.

Keg at Mother Kellys. Twig heavy, but still alright. Minerals, light fruit, bit of apricot. But not very exciting to be honest.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Poured a clear light amber with a frothy white head. The aroma is pine needle, light citrus, grassy hop. The flavour is light bitter with a refreshing crispy, zesty citrus, grassy hop palate and a weak bitter finish. Light bodied with average carbonation. Itís a nice beer, but not as good as they talked it up to be. Maybe the old hops in the right quantities are still the best.
