COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottled; Regular. ABV varies.
NOTE: As explained by the brewery in the commercial description, this beer is often made to varying recipes with different hops. Please make sure you put your review under the correct entry. The hops used are clearly identified on the label so there’s no excuse!

Everyone likes a pale ale and we’re no different. We like to mix up the aroma hops a bit and you will find that Pale Fire comes in different versions sometimes. We have hopped with Mosaic and Amarillo, Amarillo and Citra, Nelson Sauvin and others including the legendary Hop X, an English trial-hop being developed by Dr Peter Darby at Wye Hops.

Bottle at home in London. Pours just slightly hazy but vibrant gold with a rich, lasting white froth head. This smells gorgeous, with loads of fresh citrus fruits, tangerine, juicy orange, some dry grapefruit. The flavor doesn’t quite match the nose in terms of goodness, but it’s decent. Lightly sweet with a mellow citrus character, hints of pine needles, some pale malts. Light bodied with fine, spritzy carbonation. Fresh and clean to finish with suggestions of white wood, lemon, tangerine, pine needles, pale malts, and grapefruit. This one starts like a rocket but fizzles out a bit as you work through it. Very drinkable, but I’m left feeling this beer could use a jolt.

330 ml bottle - As ever Pressure Drop deliver a lovely label (very important in the modern craft beer market) and a lovely APA. Slight hoppy aroma but very subtle with a smooth crisp taste that is effortlessly smooth and easy to drink.

Hazy yellow colour, white head. Hoppy aroma, citrus, grapefruit, pineapple, passion fruit. Quite bitter hoppy flavour, lemon zest. Bit thin. Finish hops, tropical fruit.

Bottle from Kris Wines, London. Pours a hazy straw-hued dark golden body with a large white head. Nose is citrus fruits, lemon zest, straw, catty herbs, apricot, rose water, pine and hints of grass and honey melon. Taste is fresh floral tones, herbs, minty leaves, honey melon, rose water, apricot and hints of grass and bready malts. Light body, medium to high carbonation. Lovely balanced APA with loads of hop flavor and very high drinkability; certainly a fantastic introduction to Pressure Drop, which I haven’t tried anything from before. Nice one! :-)

Slightly cloudy golden colour, almost no head, a little white lacing. Lots of gooseberry and grapefruit on the nose, Nelson Sauvin and perhaps Mosaic at work. Very slight sweetness, balanced with a smooth bitterness that allows the more fruity and gooseberry flavours to dominate the palate. Ultimately rather drinkable.

Bottle: bright golden color with some white head on the edges of the glass. Aroma has fruity scent: orange, apricot and perhaps some pine in the background. Taste is even better than the aroma, having the features but also some caramel. Body medium full with fairly little CO2. A very good APA.

Flasche, leicht trübe, golden, bernsteinfarben. Kaum Schaumkrone. Duft nach Maracuja, Ananas, Papaya, honig- Süße, leichte nadelige Noten. Geschmack erst floral, dann etwas Maracuja, harzig, nadelig. Trockenes Mundgefühl. Bittere kommt leicht im Abgang, Geschmack bleibt nicht lange bestehen.

Bottle 330ml (AbM, 4.8%)
Hazy amber-orange color, decent off-white head. Strong gooseberry bush and citrus in the nose. Light to medium-bodied. Front has lots of Nelson Sauvin kiwi fruityness, then some gooseberry and citrus. Some kind of yeastyness in the flavor. Ok.

(Draught at Mother Kelly’s, Bethnal Green, London, 28 Nov 2014) Hazy golden amber colour with frothy, white head. Fruity, hoppy nose with notes of citrus, peaches and grassy, floral hops. Fruity, malty taste with citrus, peaches, biscuity malt and a fresh, floral bitterness in the finish. Medium body, quite dry. Fresh and tasty, quite drinkable. Nice one. (There were absolutely no signs of labels stating the hops included in this batch, so I’ll put it here for now.)
