4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 dphoxie (58) - North Carolina, USA - APR 5, 2013
22oz bottled october 2011, consumed april 2012. Received this bottle as a groomsman gift from my soon to be brother in law. I was pretty stoked to try this, but decided to cellar it a bit, then forgot about it so it cellared probably 6 months longer than I intended. aroma is sweet with maybe a hint of smoke. I spy a hint of ruby in the darkness of this stout.. taste is sweet and smokey. I love how any roast/coffee notes have fallen off almost completely. it tastes like a black beer with out tasting like coffee. palate is slick and smooth. I think the palate matches up to the complexity of the beers other elements nonetheless. overall an excellent stout, its a bit weird but very enjoyable. I wish i had it fresher, so i could compare to this cellared version.
