Cask. Pours near black with a tan head. Roasted malty aroma with a solid dose of hops. The flavor seems a bit muddled, just way too much going on. Roasted malt, citrusy hops, and some spicy belgian yeasty notes. Not bad.

Very sweet aroma with some vanilla character and some gumball-like fruity esters apparent. Opaque black body is topped by a low fine bubbled brown head that recedes to a partial cover with some spotty lace. Sweet milk chocolate up front with moderate bitterness. Roast is overwhelmed by vanilla and gumball flavour. Alcohol flavour is apparent. Medium body with moderate carbonation. Tulip glass. Cellar temperature. Bottle (Bottled November 2009) purchased at Brewery Creek in Mar-10.

22 oz. bottle from michael-pollack- thanks again, Pollack! Bottled October 2011. Pours a very deep, dark brown color, pretty much opaque, with an initial finger of smooth tan head that settles into a film. Aroma of dark chocolate, subtle smoke, molasses, tobacco, rye, and oats. The flavor follows pretty much the same lines, although the smokiness is even more subdued. Medium-bodied, with a smooth, rich, roasty mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Nice stout.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 presario (4406) - Stampede City, Alberta, CANADA - NOV 5, 2011
Bottle. Pours black with a half inch brown head. Roasted malt scent with some smoke and a hint of sourness. Complex flavour Andy tasty too. Even after one sip the is a long residue of charcoal bits, licorice and hops. Don’t forget the chocolate. Smooth with an aggressive bitter twist running through like a caramel swirl in a pint of ice cream.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 TheAlum (4289) - Lisle, Illinois, USA - JUN 13, 2011
22 oz bottle from TheEpeeist. Opened on a pleasant vacation day. Pours a blackish hue, dark opaque center with edges that brown up, show some light, with a frothy tannish light brown head, dies to a small film, laces small. Aromas are decent strength, a blend of roasted malts and touches of woody smoke, some herb, light Belgian dark fruit yeast influence, with cocoa, light coffee. Overall, I’d say the smoke takes the lead, woody and earthy, maybe a touch of meat. Initial is smokey, up front with wood and earth, roasty malts quickly transfer into a dark fruit plum and sweeter brown sugar Belgian yeast fermentation influence. Some cocoa, black cherries, a strange mix up front, however it settles in on the palate, with smoke, roast, earthy, marshmellows that are roasted, more dark fruity plums and cherries, with decent roast, sweet cocoa and caramel. Really crazy beer. Innovative, created, with smoke moving quickly into Belgian dark beer, some candied fruits, growing roast helps keep the sweetness down and in check. Smoke, dark fruit, some roast, and sweetness. I would have thought that I’d hate this, but it really actually works. A dark decent smoked Belgian.. Who would have known? Finish lingering Belgian yeast, dark fruit, slight spice pairing into smokey malts and roast. Maybe everyone will think I’m crazy, but I really liked this. Some dry floral bitterness works into the back, alcohol never really shows up. Nice.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 OleR (4247) - Oslo, NORWAY - MAR 20, 2013
From a 0.65 L bottle. Rocky tanned head. Body is opaque, near black. Cocoa, toasted dark malts and dark tinned fruits to the nose. Hint of something herbal and floral. Good malt body, with a fine sweetness and a predominant licorice flavor. Some dark fruits too, and hint of ash. Light, sparkling mouthfeel. Finishes dry. A complex and balanced beer. Good, indeed.
3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 notalush (4174) - Denver, Colorado, USA - JUN 2, 2010
Upon first sip, this is a decent but fairly ordinary stout - however, the more the beer warms, and the more your palate sinks into it, the more complexities come forward - the nose is intense, rich, smoky, herbal and woody - reminds me of a campire in wintertime - medium bodied, and a little less rich than the aroma suggests - fairly sweet, with some anise and chocolate - a subtle kiss of smoke and charred wood - light spiciness around the edges - the lightest bit of belgian fruitiness on the tail end - interesting and tasty.
