COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Baby tree is a "quadruple" brewed with a single strain of Belgian yeast. While a commonly used style name on the internet, "quadruple" isn’t in fact a style name at all but a brand of beer produced by La Trappe in the Netherlands. Its found a common usage as a cover-all for the darkest and strongest beers produced by Trappist monks, mainly because they haven’t named them themselves. Two Belgian brewers use the term "Abt", Flemish for "Abbot". Historically the best beer made in an abbey (by the Cistercians/Trappists at least) was referred to in Latin simply as "prima melior". This has also become a brand name in recent years. Our "quadruple" benefits from the addition of 40lbs of dried California plums in the kettle - hopefully contributing to the overall dark-fruit character of the beer. It’s a dark, 8.6% beer..."Baby Tree" is Pretty Things’ first seasonal beer.

Brewed and bottled by Dann Paquette of Pretty Things Beer and Ale Project, Inc. at Buzzards Bay. Previously brewed at Paper City. Not a Paper City or Buzzards Bay brand beer.

Pour is jet black with little to no head. Nose is of dark fruits and cadni sugar, there is something else there but hard to put a finger on. Taste is of everything sweet in the beer. Very nice, sugary taste.

On tap at the abbey. Pours dark brown with a small ring of foam. Aroma is fruity, raisins and clove. Flavor is almost tart and creamy, dark fruit like cherry skins. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

27.06.2014, 0,65l bottle @ home:
Nice creamy longlasting head. Aroma is slightly sweet fruity, dried dark fruits, caramel malts, grass, yeast, butterscotch, citrus, "knekk", almond cake, dark sugar, hints of alcohol. Taste is kind of harsh and metallic, caramel malts, grass, metal tank, hay, yeast, cardboard, chalk, almond essence, butterscotch, dried dark fruits. Medium bitterness, harsh mouthfeel, kind of a fizzy carbonation. Meh!

650ml bottle. Slightly cloudy, red glowing, brown colour with small, creamy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Slightly vinous, fruity aroma, hints of dried fruit, plum, raisin, red berries, some yeast-spiciness. Taste is dry, fruity, notes of dried fruit, plum, raisin, spicy bitter hoppy overtones, some malt-spiciness, basic malt-sweetness; slightly sticky palate. Controlled, flattering, easy going, too sweet.

Nice brown quadrupel but over valuated, we have something better in belgium. Caramel, dried and dark fruits as plum and figs, brown sugar. Okay, but body needs more softness and it is a bit more in the barleywine english way. Expensive.

From the 650 ml. bottle with an expiration date of February 2014 but this is a Quad that should last longer than that. And it seems to three months later. I get a beautiful reddish-brown pour with a full off-white head that fades but laces. The aroma is vibrant with Belgian sugar sweetness, yeast, dark fruits, molasses, and spice. The body is medium to full. The fruitiness of the nose is far more reserved in the taste but I still get plenty of Belgian malts, Belgian sugar, and biscuity and mild finish. Reminds me more of a quality Dubbel but I enjoyed it.

Draft at Meadhall. Dark clear amber pour with a white head. Malty Belgian biscuit nose. Nice taste, slight raisin and plum followed by lots of malt and a slight Belgian spice finish.

Bottle from Luekens in Oldsmar. Brown pour, light tan head. Aroma is banana bread. Tastes are wheat, spice, dark fruit, banana bread, toffee. Even and crisp. Not my style, but good.
