COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Baby tree is a "quadruple" brewed with a single strain of Belgian yeast. While a commonly used style name on the internet, "quadruple" isn’t in fact a style name at all but a brand of beer produced by La Trappe in the Netherlands. Its found a common usage as a cover-all for the darkest and strongest beers produced by Trappist monks, mainly because they haven’t named them themselves. Two Belgian brewers use the term "Abt", Flemish for "Abbot". Historically the best beer made in an abbey (by the Cistercians/Trappists at least) was referred to in Latin simply as "prima melior". This has also become a brand name in recent years. Our "quadruple" benefits from the addition of 40lbs of dried California plums in the kettle - hopefully contributing to the overall dark-fruit character of the beer. It’s a dark, 8.6% beer..."Baby Tree" is Pretty Things’ first seasonal beer.

Brewed and bottled by Dann Paquette of Pretty Things Beer and Ale Project, Inc. at Buzzards Bay. Previously brewed at Paper City. Not a Paper City or Buzzards Bay brand beer.

Had on tap at Deep Ellum in Boston. Dark amber in color with a nice fluffy white head. Nice aroma of dark fruits, bread, candy, banana and carmel. Taste is of raisons, plums, roasted malts, carmel and toffee. Creamy mouthful, no detection of alcohol, easy to drink. Very enjoyable and would recommend to others.

What is this? A quad? Doesn't seem like it. The aroma is woody with a touch of sweetness. The palate brings some raisins an stewed apples but not much else. Meh ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Spence. Pours a reddish brown, off-white head. Aroma sweet and boozy, not much of the plums. Body is medium, finish is very nice, tart, funky, spicy, leather, but still not much of the plums. Good nevertheless.

0.65l bottle #22, bottled feb 2011 from Kihosk bought as a gift from my girlfriend. Big thanks! This is a really murky charcoal/amber colored one with a small sidesticking and islandy beige top. On the nose I get sweet ripe bananas, green apples, yeast and a heavy heavy candy-sweetness! There is also a swiff of smoke hidden within this, but the sweet banana and candy sweetness dominates everything. The flavor is also quite there on the sweet side. It’s a heavy oxidation going on in this. Probably one of the most oxidized one I’ve ever had. It’s average on the carbonation and kinda sticky-oily on the mouthfeel. More brown banana sweetness, fruity with plums, dates, some thin raisins, melon and caramel. A bit watery perhaps in the finish. Slightly warming aftertaste. I like the story behind this beer, both the brewers and definitely the way I got it. 24.10.2012

Nice quad and only $5.50 for 12 oz. at The Grog in Newburyport. The plums give it a darker color but are not overpowering.

Bottle: Pours a clear ruby-reddish brown with a frothy and creamy off white head. Aroma is sweet stone fruits, candied cherries, and faint alcohol. Right from the first sip you are lured in by a subtle plum sweetness. Some of that classic belgian yeast cherry tartness makes an appearance in the middle and more plum - maybe more of the plum skin - shows up in the finish. This is a medium bodied easy drinker that belies its 9% ABV with medium carbonation and a semi-dry finish. Overall I truly enjoyed this beer for what it is - a simple straightforward take on a Quad style beer. I wasn’t expecting this to be as good as it is and would have no problem putting it up against any quad [save St Bernardus]! I am really happy with this bottle and had no trouble finishing it as I typed this review. I would DEFINITELY get this again and will be on the lookout for more. I’m putting this in my regular rotation for sure.

Clear amber with medium size stable off white head. Lacing. Aroma. .fruity, peach, plums, malty, bit caramel, toffee, floral hops From sweet to quite bitter and quite long finish. Well it was decent, but from quad I expect something special.

Draft . Deep brown. No head. Thick body with heaviness. Pretty sweet with hints of booze. Pretty potent and flavorful. Not bad ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
