COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Welcome to our Field Mouse’s Farewell. It’s a late spring seasonal beer: French, rustic, 7%, full of different grains: Rye, Oats, Wheat and Barley. Like what a mouse would eat. The hops are Strisselspalt from Alsace, and Bramling Cross from England, and we combined Belgian and English yeast strains. Oldy woldy worldy.

Bottle from May 2011, Batch 2 that I found hiding in my cellar. I do not have high hopes for what age did to this one. Aroma is fairly fruity with a lot of overripe stone fruit, pear and red apple.Medium honey notes with some lighter pepper and grains of paradise phenolic notes. Light caramel and toasted bread malt notes. Pours a hazy, copper orange with a medium sized, fairly thin head that recedes pretty quickly to the edges where it lingers for a bit. Flavor is moderately sweet with quite a bit of honey character. Moderate notes of overripe stone fruit, pear and red apples. Faint grain notes of toasted bread, caramel and rye. Medium light bitterness and no hop flavor. Light phenolics. Hints of alcohol in the finish with lingering honey and red apple. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a pretty over the hill beer. The honey notes from oxidation are showing strongly, but there is not any paper/cardboard character. Quite a bit of fruit character, but the malt notes have faded. As it warms, I pick up more bread and toast notes. Phenolics are complimentary and kept in check.

0.65l bottle brought home from Mikkeller & Friends. I just really like this little brewery. In the glass this one has a light cloudy deep orange body with a small bubbly, lingering and definitely lacing bright white head. It’s quite fruity and inviting on the nose. Almost tropical fruit with melon and peaches. Not over hopped-fruity but more subtle and calmed down with traces of bread. Lots of sweetness also here. Could be honey melon I smell. Mild grassy as well and it smells quite nice. It’s really different in the taste! Is it a supercharged golden English ale or something? It has a good oily feeling in the mouth and the bubbles are only prickling, soft and somewhat comfortable in the mouth. All sorts of ripe fruits in the taste but the kicker is the peppery almost spicy thing that comes in the finish. Bitter blood orange with lots of yeast references. In the finish besides the peppery spicy heat there is also a good amount of alcohol. I have no idea what kind of beer this is, but I’m quite enjoying this peculiar little mouse thingy. 23.01.2014
