3.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Slightly hazy copper coloured body with a thick dense tan head and a lot of bubbles at first - not so many after a few seconds. Aroma of VERY pungent bread, yeast, wort and a little light hops, some caramel too - but a lot of yeast notes. Medium-bodied; Pungent floral hop note with some grassy and herbal kick behind with a little malt, a lot of bitterness and some yeast flavours at the end. Aftertaste shows more of a bitter note with the hops most prevalent, some malt and a good bit of caramel and toffee. Overall, a good representation of the british style with a funky nose, but makes up for it in the aftertaste (it actually has flavour!) and the look - the head lasts forever. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Charles St. Liquors in Boston, Massachusetts on 23-September-2010 for US$6.45, sampled at home in Washington on 04-February-2011.

Bottle, bought @ Havnens Vin & Tobak, Vejle.
Pours deep red with a small, frothy, off-white head. Mild hoppy and resiny aroma, oranges, red apples, light grassy on top of good doughy malts. Highish prickly carbonation, light and dry mouthfeel with some graininess to it. Flavour is subdued hoppy, good grassy bite. Long, lingering grassy dry and bitter finish. Very elegant and drinkable.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Hazy amer with a lasting off-white head. Aroma of grassy and wooden hops with a hint of malt. Dry and hoppy flavour, mostly grassy. The English hop character is there, but the bitterness is a bit over done and ends up with an acrid finish

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 8/20
Another piece in my Pretty Things collection of ticks.
Bottled AUG 2010 1st BATCH! on the neck label. This is probably past its prime. Oh well.
A- It looks really nice. A big rocky white head is torn off in chunks that stick in patches to the glass. The beer is a burnt orange color with a little bit of a chill haze problem or something.
S- Dwarf hop varieties, eh? The aroma is pretty English pale smelling but hopped up (this is American, lets not forget that). A little bit of butter, toffee, dough, grass, pollen, clover honey, it smells almost like a hedgerow.
T- I keep going back and forth between a 2.5 and a 3 here, but I think Im going to settle at a 3. I have to consider the age, and for a 6 month old 5.4% pale ale it has stood up pretty well. That is to say the hoppiness that I imagine they were shooting for is still pretty strong. And it is certainly uniquely hopped, which I also believe is part of this beerís concept. The taste starts out buttery, on the smooth side and crackery. Wild flower and shrubbery overgrowth flavored hops break in and disrupt things. A little bit of boiled vegetables and husk rears up. The finish is pretty darn bitter and loaded with a medicinal taste. Ugh, I changed my mind. Better make it a 2.5.
D- Its that aspirin finish that ruins it. Perhaps thats due to this beers lack of freshness, but its making it really hard for me.

This was brought to a tasting a while back. Cloudy orange pour. Grassy hop earthy aroma. Flavors were similar, lots of earthy hop throughout as well as a big bitterness throughout. Lingering dry finish. Decent ESB.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle 65 cl. Pours amber with a slight haze and a dense and lacing off-white head. The nose has some caramel and what appears to be British hops. Medium body, dry caramel, fruit and phenols with a light underlying sweetness. Quite a bitter finish. Surprisingly authentic for a US version of a Bitter. 160111
