Say hello to Magnifico! He’s our latest draft-only summer beer released very quietly on August 4th, 2011. Hopefully once you see the graphic you’ll recognize Magnifico who played a small role on our very first label: Jack D’Or. Well now the little hop we call Magnifico has his own spin-off beer (and glassware)! Magnifico is a project we’ve been thinking about for quite some time: a highly drinkable, full flavoured low gravity beer. For this we weren’t talking about close-to-5% either, but much smaller. On brew day we set our sights on 8 degrees Plato (i.e. a VERY low amount of sugars to start with) to make a 2.5% beer, but we hit 8.3. The beer fermented down a tad more than we thought it would, which is how we ended up at 3.4%. Magnifico is super drinkable, but it’s full bodied and not watery. Bitterness lends to its drinkability as well, splitting the beer down the middle and requiring of you another sip! The beer finishes with Sterling & Magnum hops. We’re not sure how long you’ll see Magnifico or if we’ll ever be able to brew him again. Hopefully if you’re in MA you’ll find yourself some Magnifico on draught!

Tasted on 2/8/14 from a bottle at the late night tasting after the RBWG Grand Tasting. Pours hazy, pale yellow with an average white head that recedes to average lace. The nose is restrained pale malt with a touch of citrus hops. The flavor is the same, very light with decent hops bitterness. The body is light with average carbonation and a short bitter hops finish.

Bottle at Ryan and Jodi’s with friends. Pour is clear golden with a big frothy head and great lacing. Biscuity, grassy, lemony, zesty, crackers, and lightly fruity aroma. Taste is biscuit, lemon peels, grass, dough, hay, straw, and light weed with light bitter finish. Medium body with high carbonation. Not bad.

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy dark golden color with a smallish white head on it. Nose is only somewhat hoppy, but with some nice floral notes to it. Taste is dry and slightly bitter, yet feels light, crisp, and fresh. Really pleasant light drink.

Taster at RBWG 2014 grand tasting - thanks to the person who shared this! Mostly hazy golden orange color. Thin off-white head. Dots, ropes of lace. Good looking stuff. Medium to bigger body. Smooth, soft, lighter carbonation. More dry finish. Nice biscuity, caramel malty aroma. Some orange citrus zest. Moderate sweet, light bitter. Pretty respectable, smooth, sessionable, satisfyingly hoppy pale ale, with an interesting yeast character to it. Enjoyable stuff to try. Edit: whoa, 3%? Wow, here I was rating this thinking it was a 5% pale ale. Great hoppy session ale! Even more impressive now!

Bottle from Leary’s. Pours cloudy pale golden with a white clingy head. Pale malt backbone with grassy hop bitterness. Not a favorite, but a lot of flavor for a 3.4% beer.

WillRunForBeer supplied. Many thanks! To long-stemmed goblet, it pours a golden yellowish with a whitish, sudsy ringed head 1 finger in length. Aromas of Meyer lemons, crisp malt, daffodils, chamomiles, cake frosting, and lemongrass, mashed pears, and pine cones. Tastes the same with the addition of French noble hops, and LME. Another style...DESTROYED!!!

From a bottle
Pours a pale golden with a nice light haze and a huge fluffy white head that leaves nice lacing on the glass.

The aroma is nicely fruity in a "fruity hop" kind of way, it’s got a pleasantly sweet aroma but it’s not sugary smelling. It’s a touch floral & very appetizing.

The flavor is well woven together, the bit of bitterness goes a long ways here & the hop flavor is enjoyable.... although I’d prefer a touch more ooph in that department. The maltiness is bright with some light toasty characteristics.

The big surprise is that for as low boost as it is, it comes across as a pretty full bodied beer, or at least it’s not especially thin in any way.

Really enjoyable.
