Meadowlark IPA is a new juicy and floral hoppy ale we brewed to celebrate the flavor and spirit of American craft brewing. This 7% alcohol beer has a sunny orange-gold colour, 60 International Bittering Units, a smooth mouthfeel and layers of soft flowery hops. We wove fragrant Citra and Bravo hops from the Pacific Northwest with intensely fruity Galaxy hops from Australia. The malts are English pale & crystal, flaked barley with malty highlights from Munich malt and Roast Barley. The resulting patchwork is as “American” tasting as short ribs and slaw, and provides an excellent accompaniment to that kind of food too!

Just got this in at Olive Tree Market in OB--$8.99 a bomber. Looks like it was bottled in July 2012--what the hell? why is this just getting into California. Stupid distributors. Yep, upon first popping the cap, I get some dying hops. Lame. Slightly hazy yellow gold with a 1 1/2 finger off-white head, good retention. Despite being a couple months old, there is still some good resiny pineapple and Citra hops, some lightly toasty malts behind. Flavor adds a bit of herbal hops and still has the aforementioned good hop flavor, but also the old hops. Just a little bit of malt sweetness is tempered by bitterness that peaked at a 7 in the semi-dry finish, earthy. Medium body with light smooth carbonation. I bet this would’ve been quite tasty if I had a fresher bottle--no complaints other than the age.

Draft at mugs. A little odd but interesting brew. Strong umami note, with some lemon and chardonnay. Hop bitterness comes on strong in the finish. Lace film on glass. Good.

On tap at Lord Hobo. Pours a hazy golden with a small white head that leaves nice lacing. Nose is of tropical fruits and pine, pleasing. Taste is moderately bitter and "wheaty" (not sure of my audio notes on this one). A little sweet but only to support that bitterness. Easy drinking with a moderate body and a high carbonation. Nice one!

Bottle. Golden, cloudy, average and fully diminishing head. Moderate, malty and lightly sweetish aroma, some caramel and some light bread with some tropical fruitiness, citrus and grapefruit hoppyness. Body is medium, malty and sweetish flavor, light caramel and fruitiness, piney and light grapefruit hoppyness. Finish is average, malty and lightly sweetish - sweetish, light caramel and faint fruitiness, lots of citrus - piney hoppyness. Really nice bitterness, but too much caramel for me/not dry enough.

Clear, light amber, lacy. Medium body, flat mouthfeel, definite but simple and uncharming flavor and finish. Bitter, dry. Grapefruit, floral, supported by a hint of honey. Strong but not very appealing. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap @ Lord Hobo.

Appearance: Cloudy golden/orange with a good white head and heavy lacing.

Aroma: Quite hoppy with citrus, resin, mild caramel malt in the background.

Taste: Moderate sweetness. Citrus forward with resin in the background. Good malt backbone. Moderate bitterness.

Palate: Medium body. Moderate carbonation. Moderately dry. Resin and caramel finish.

Overall: Very good balance. A bit malty, but not nearly enough to be a problem. Easy to drink. Nice hop bill. Tasty and quenching.

J’aime.

Bomber from Boston, thanks Rosey. Nice carbonation, not very much head unfortunately. I guess we are almost four months from bottling, maybe that has something to do with the lack of head. Aroma is very mild, some citrus detected. Appearance is an orange gold. Not much of interest going here, but it is totally fine. I am going to blame the age and transportation for the seeming drop of in quality.

On tap at Lord Hobo. Completely murky gold pour, lots and lots of yeast floating around, foamy white head and medium sheets of lacing. Aroma is floral, nice and hoppy, honey malt, definitely some malty aromas in there, really nice fresh juicy hoppiness, some pine. Taste is very piney, lots of pine, resin on the palate, good strong bitterness, pretty juicy, pungent. Palate is med-full bodied, nice chewy IPA, pretty solid IPA.
