COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
EAST INDIA PALE ALE, 1879, YORKSHIRE, ENGLAND: Hereís the new one! We couldnít help but want to brew a proper period version of the beer that started the craft beer movement here in the US and Ron came up with a brewsheet that launched many OUAT firsts. Not only does this one use English hops as would be expected, but also hops from Germany (including hops from Alsace that was only recently ceded to Germany from France) and California. Yes, you heard that correctly. We donít even grow hops in California these days so it was surprise to see a Yorkshire brewery using them in the 19th century. First ever use of American hops in a OUAT beer.

Bottle at RBWG Grand Tasting. Pours yellow with a white head. Nose is sweet malt, some orange, some citrus, and light floral notes. Flavor is similar with light citrus, orange, and floral notes. Light in body and not bad overall.

Pours a nice golden color with a three finger foamy white head. On the nose its toasted malt, little earthy spice and a touch of citrus kissed grassy hops. The palate is clean and bitter with a nice malt backbone that has a touch of caramel sweetness and a grassy bitter mid to late palate. Nice beer a bit pricey for what it is.

Interesting IPA. Lighter in color- yellow with a hint of orange. Not overly hoppy, but it does have a nice flavor. Flavor profile more along the lines of a pale ale. Regardless this is decent.

22oz bottle in a shaker. Pours light amber with a fluffy, off-white head. Aroma of cereal-like malts and floral hops. Flavor about the same with the two not meshing well. Average texture. Sort of a disappointment, like a lot of beers from this series.
