Bomber. Poured dark, clear brown with a disappearing head. Lightly sweet and cocoa aroma. Flavor complex salt with chocolate and toast. Overall a restrained, sophisticated and mature brew. Lovely.

22oz bottle in a tulip. Pours very deep brown with a lacy, beige head. Aroma of slightly roasted, toffee, and nutty malts plus caramel, some light bitterness, and dough. Flavor the same with a good balance of the malts. Average texture. A good Scotch ale.

22oz Bottle, purchased at Track 84 - Warwick, RI. Well developed malt nose, with a hefty dose of warmth and limestone. This develops a really nice caramelized malt profile right up front, with sticky buns, praline, and toasted almonds. Really one of the best Scotch Ale caramelized malt flavors I’ve ever experienced. The downfall is that the finish is marred by too much roasted grain husk, as though there’s an unfortunately high percentage of dark chocolate malt, that leaves a raking sensation on the tongue that isn’t all that enjoyable. I realize as a historical re-creation, this may be faithful, but I still detracts from the drinking experience.

Bottle. Pours a deep and lightly hazed brown with a medium to large sized beige head. Soft roast and a bit of dusty hops on the nose. Lots of thick malt and toast with some lovely chocolate hints. A bit on the bigger side of medium bodied. Large cocoa and roast. For a beer that’s just under 7% this drinks like a much bigger beer. Not in a bad way at all, there’s just a ton of body and thickness here. Loads of roast with some sweet dusty cocoa and a bit of prune. A nice touch of banana in the yeast moves toward a finish that lingers with cocoa and roasted malt. Lovely.

Roast, nuts, and some dark fruit in the aroma. Flavor starts rich, sweet, and malty. Finish is sweet and spicy with a fair amount of drying alcohol. Different and good, but if you don’t like sweet beers, stay away.

Tap at Meadhall. The beer pours to a glowing mahogany body with a lasting creamy off white head. Amazing lacing. The aroma is dark fruits and yeasts. Kind of reminds me of some dunkels. Flavor is quite malty with a light bitterness and tobacco. Medium body that lingers.

Draft @ Meadhall, Cambridge, MA. Reddish color with thick egg shell white head. Smells is very malty, a little Smokey. I had to let this beer warm and hopefully open up. It kind of didn’t…. Flavor is malty with light caramel, hints of nuts, light toffee, and light peat. Something about the flavor was real restrained. It just tasted bland. I love Pretty things as a brewery maybe I will have to give this another try at some point.

Pours deep brown into a snifter. Mocha head with little retention recedes to mottle surface. Dark caramel aromas. Medium bodied with molasses and pit fruit upfront turning to warming chocolate and sour licorice in the lasting finish.
