3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
0.65l bottle from Bierkoning. Itís quite on the cloudy side this with its dark wood amber color and medium sized bubbly and fading off-white head. The nose has a nice gentle fruitiness. I get a little malty sweetness, kinda wort-ish and there are traces of chocolate and bitter un-roasted coffee beans. Some cocoa and nuts as well. Or is it perhaps yeast? In a strange way the aroma is not that bad, and Iím daring to say that I actually kinda like it. As expected not much resistance in the taste, but it definitely has some flavor this puppy. The dark chocolate paper sticks it head out, I get some more of that sweet wort found in the aroma. It has a light, but definitely not thin but light mouthfeel and the carbonation is just below average and near prickling. Itís really mild, sessional and quite tasty. Could drink lots of this in one setting. It reminds me much of Kinns Manna. Ends with a little bit of bitter coffee and cocoa powder. Totally completely different from itís elder brothers, and really interesting. 04.10.2013

Bottle at home. Pours clear brown with a medium, frothy and rocky off-white head, long retention with excellent lacing. Aroma is toast and nutty malt, dates and leaves with light earthy hops. Flavor is sweet malt dominant, medium hops, light bitterness, dark fruits and a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from Beers of Europe. Poured a clear copper, with a dense off-white head. Malty aroma, with mineral and straw notes. Bitter grain flavours, some grass and brown sugar. Quite a light, crisp mouth feel. Finish was caramel, burnt sugar and straw. Quite interesting; fairly full flavoured, considering its strength.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 oz. bottle. Had this one sitting in my basement for about a year and a half. Pours a clear dark gold/copper with a touch of redness. Off-white head that quickly settles to a film. Carbonation keeps rising but not too much - just in the center of the glass. Aroma is sweet and bready, much like a mild English ale. Medium bodied, getting some slight toasted flavors, caramel, toffee and malt. Finish is slightly bitter on the sides, sweet in the middle and some toasted flavors after the swallow. Very interesting, great story to go with it. Glad I had it. Thanks to Sam for the bottle.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Clear deep amber brown color, thin off white head. Aroma of toffee, light molasses, caramel. Taste is moderately sweet toffee with a toasted edge. Decent stuff for such a low abv beer. Interesting to taste a bit of history, and more recent (and realistic) than things like re-created Egyptian brews.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
1st December 2012
Hazy light brown beer, tidy off white head. Palate is light, semi dry and with a light crispness. Dry and thin malt, just a touch of cream. Very mild hop bitterness, barely there citrus. Minerals and then a smi dry finish. Itís great to try these recreations and long may they continue, but If I had just come through WWII I would have wanted something more than this!

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 oz bottled shared by csbosox. Original recipe, February 22 1945 this version was brewed on February 14 2012. The pour is a murky burnt orange with a limited off white head. The aroma is cocoa along with a light fruit sweetness, and just a hint of cherry skin. The taste is the light sweet malt, moving towards the cocoa which lingers nicely with the soft sweetness and the yeast character. The palate is medium bodied, low carbonation level, and a bunch of body for a beer as small as this. Nice one, thanks for sharing Chris.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
22 ounce bottle. Pours a darker brown with a thin, beige head of foam. Aroma is roasty, bready, and chocolatey. Tastes like a burnt biscuit covered in chocolate powder. Nice!
