COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Once Upon a Time Series #1: Once upon a time, on Monday February 27th, 1832, a brewer stepped into the Black Eagle brewhouse, Brick Lane, London, and brewed a beer that confounds expectations many years later. A mild ale at 10% alcohol, with more hops than most modern American “India Pale Ales.

22oz bottle. Pours a copperish color with a frothy off white head. Nose is sweet, with caramel, some peanuts, a light alcohol note and some light spicy hop notes. Head recedes leaving light lacing, a firm ring and a light film. Palate is sticky, biting, a clean bitterness in the finish. Flavor is mostly hop notes with a spicy, resiny flavor to it and some light nutty hints and some sugary caramel notes.

750 ml bottle courtesy of Judy, Matthew and Dennis - thanks! Clearish golden color, edge head. Aroma of apricot and malt. Taste had bitter fruits, good balance, licorice. Good complexity and character. Nice brew.

Pours light maple syrup into a snifter. Off-white head pancakes to mottle surface leaving slight lacing. Banana aromas. Thick with caramel syrup-soaked bananas flambe upfront turning bitter chocolate in the lasting finish. Alcohol well hidden.

Bottle from Craft. Pours chill hazy copper with off-white head. Nose is caramel malt, fusel spirits, hops, pepper. Tastes rich, malty, spirity, with spare hops and a rich flavor. This one is anything but mild. and if they were drinking this stuff back in 1832, then they were awesome. Gets hotter as it warms, and lightweights need go back to Bud Chelada.

Bottle pour at the Pony Bar. Awesome beer. Beautifully hopped with equal sweet maltiness to match. Pours an amber-yellow with a subtle cream head. Earthy hop aroma. Flavor is sweet and diverse, with mild fruit notes and light bitterness. Nicely carbonated, crisp but smooth, this beer was a pleasure.

UPDATED: MAR 4, 2010 First rating!!! Yes!!!! This beer is awesome. The nose is fruity, booozy, very enticing. The appearance is red/brown, slighly hazy, off-white head. The flavor is amazing, dark fruit (plums, raisins), and spicy hops. The finish is sweet, with a boozy warming in the throat. The body is medium/thick, fair amount of carbonation in the mouthfeel. Excellent.
