4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Batch 4 - bottled December 09. Sweet caramel and light roast aroma, slight butterscotch, emit from the impressively frothy head. Deep ruby when held up to the light, otherwise nicely brown. Impressive array of flavors - some cherry-like tang, light roast, deep caramel and a fruity/citric hop tinge. Very crisp and easily quaffed with a tart quality from the yeast. Calling this a brown ale does not do this justice - it has little in the way of chocolate malts and is damn impressive.

Bottle at tasting. Soft aroma of chocolate and brown malt. Taste of mocca, chocolate, hazelnut and creamy yeast. Decent brown ale, drinkable, but a bit boring.

Bottle share. Aroma is pistachio nuts, caramel, soy source. Taste is pistachios, clove, coriander, licorish, marzipan and caramel. Would go very well in the working mens’ clubs in the north of England. To style this is good but I don’t like brown ales much.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Appearance: medium amber brown, short light tan head, creamy but quickly fading. Aroma: brown and candi sugars, belgian yeast, some caramel and chocolate, bit of unripe banana. Taste: malty and sweet, with raisin, fig, a bit of caramel and chocolate, a bit of leather, and strong yeasty character. Finish: lingering yeasty notes, with lasting leather, tobacco, and candi sugar. Notes: A nice enough brown ale. Pretty prominent Belgian characteristics, and well-balanced. Bottle from Knightly Spirits in Orlando, Florida.

Bottle @ THT November. Pours a clear reddish beer with a small ring of off white head on top. Aroma of some Brett (?), grapes, chocolate and some roasted coffee. Flavor is lightly sour, even some peppery burn in the back. Thin mouthfeel, good drinkability and good stuff.
