Inspired by the mysterious legend of big black cats that roam the Victorian bush, this beer is an India Black Ale. Like an India Pale Ale, Black Panther IBA is a full bodied beer that’s rich in hop bitterness. A generous addition of North American hops both in the boil and in the fermenter impart a strong citrus aroma. Caramelised black malt imparts a subtle burnt flavour to this rare beer. Savour now.

Pours deep opaque cola brown with creamy light tan deep eggshell head. Aromas of coffee, milk, chocolate, dank, grass, herbs, toasted malts and hints of caramel. Medium body, zesty carbonation, balanced malt complexity with a perceivable medium level of bitterness. Finishes semi sweet, toffee, caramel, roasted malts, coffee chocolate malt complexity lingering.

Tap, great ocean road Brewhouse. Darkest brown, light brown head. Fresh citric and gingerlike hop notes on roast malt. Medium full body, sparkly , light salt, moreish - great!

Dark brown color. Sweet molasses, cotton candy and cocoa exude from the nose. The mouth is medium body and a bit sweeter than typical IBAs. The beer is really about the malt character and it shines with tons of cocoa with some roastiness, joined with cotton candy. Not such a bitter finish. Malty sweet, but highly enjoyable from a guy who likes hoppy IBAs.

Pours black with a fluffy light tan head. Nose is very malt driven. Burnt toast, caramel, coffee. A little tiny bit of citrus, but really not much. I’m not getting loads of hop character out of this. There’s a bit of citrus, mandarin, peach, then there’s coffee, dark chocolate, burnt toast, and the finish is almost like a chocolate covered orange, with some charcoal thrown in there for good measure. This is much more towards the ’black’ side than it is towards the ’IPA’ side. Medium body, unremarkable carbonation. Lingering finish that’s pretty burnt and roasty. Not bad, but I think this is either an old bottle or it lacks enough hop character. And if it’s an old bottle it’s entirely the brewer’s fault, because I’ve had it in my possession for less than two weeks, and there’s no bottling date on the bottle.

Tap at Taps Beer Bar, Kuala Lumpur. Poured a clear dark brown with a frotjy white head and lots of broken lace. The aroma is malt, light grass hop. The flavour is moderate bitter with a grass hop bitter, light spice palate and a lingering bitter finish. Medium to light bodied with soft carbonation.

Aromas of coffee, grapefruit and honey. Lovely winter beer with plenty of roasted malt and hops in the mouth. The alcohol is very prominent in the back of the throat, but I’m enjoying that. It’s dry as a chip.

Pours with a well defined head, but probably slightly over-gassed. Slight taste of coffee. Appropriately hopped and sits well on the palate. Another high quality beer from Prickly Moses. They really do deserve recognition for thinking outside the box when producing beers that are not run-of-the-mill.

330mL bottle. Pours deep dark brown (held up to the light) with a fluffy caramel coloured head. A very nice aroma of resinous pine, dark chocolate and roasted coffee beans (aroma reminds me of Kooinda IBA). Very rich yet smooth medium body flavour. The light coffee/choc notes mingle well with the resinous pine and fruity notes. Complex and full of flavour.
