3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle - thank you Dortmunder!
Attractive dark crimson colour, creamy brown head.
Sirupy and honeyish aroma - has a bit of mead in there.
Very sweet base flavour, sugar, honey, caramel, but also sweet fruits, a light herbal edge. Fat sirupy mouthfeel, sweet aftertaste. Too sweet as it is, but probably a good desert beer - I wonder how it would develop after cellaring it a couple of years.

2.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bottle: very dark, reddish brown, thin, lasting reddish brown head, big nose (caramel, liquorice), quite alcoholic with a tinge of port-wine, also hints of roasted malts and coffeee; quite sweet start, a bit sticky, fruity(plums)-malty taste and also a short fruity aftertaste, nearly no bitterness; lacks the hoppiness in the short finish, unharmonic, not well balanced, boring !

2.3 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Deep brown, nearly black in appearance with a tan, creamy and small dense head. Aroma is pretty bad - whisky, molasses and allspice come to mind. Flavor is sweet and cloying; heavy emphasis of molasses seems to be intended to mask the high ABV, which it does well, but then it ruins any sense of balance that the beer could hope to attain. Thick, like a port laced with molasses and chocolate malts. Apple cider vinegar like aftertaste, with some roasted malts coming through on the back end. Too sweet and very cloying. Boo.

2.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bottled. Dakr ruby red colour. Medium head. Chocolate, caramelly nose. Molasses and chocolate in the taste, otherwise terribly sweet. I could detect no bitterness, just sweetness. Some of the flavours are interesting, but they all get buried in a cloying, sugary sweetness.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Metallic powder bitterness atop mild hops and roasted malt and molasses. Sweet biscuits and some coffee. Dark brown black clear with thin tan head. Medium thick body, not quite oily, with light carbonation. Starts syrupy sweet, with roasted malt, molasses and brown sugar. Alcohol warming and mild carbonic acidity. Light hops sourness in the finish with molasses and biscuit after. Not quite cloying but close.

Doppelbock? Okay, if you say so. But this was a lackluster, watery, one-dimensional (bad) beer. My ratings are generous.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark brown color. Medium sized white foamy head. Aroma is malt, dark fruit and sweet. A medium bodied dopplebock. Malts are fruity, brown sugar-ish and sweet. Touch of toffee and some spices. Slightly spicy hops. Way over balanced toward the big sweet malts. It a nice dopplebock if you can get past the nearly overpowering sweetness. Definitely a sipping beer. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is very sweet.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
(500 ml bottle - thanks to JensenTaster). Black (= very dark brown) colour, moderate tan head. Aroma of lightly roasted malts, tar and dark chocolate. Notes of smoke and woodwork. Flavour is rich, malty and full of molasses. Very sweet, too sweet in my book - nearly sticky. The 10% ABV is extremely well hidden behind the overwhelming sweetness, could (nearly) pass for a 1.7% ABV Danish "hvidtřl"! The Danes might use it to put hyper-active children to sleep on Christmas eve! Despite the sweetness, I kind of like it, due to its very full mouthfeel. A love-hate relationship, you might say.
