UPDATED: JUL 22, 2015 Cloudy brownish-yellow with decent white head. Aroma is very faint. Flavored notes are malt, banana, caramel, wheat and cloves with a bit of spice. It?s very light and the fruit and citrus is easily discernible from the pale sweet malts.

Foam is persistent and very rich. The aroma is a little coriander and banana with caramel malt. The taste is slightly roasted malt with flavors of caramel, banana and some chocolate which I can not quite decide as light or dark, perhaps almost a mixture of both. I also sense vanilla. I can also taste a little bit orange peel in flavor with a little nondescript spices and a slightly roasted malt character who is a bit like burnt sugar. Now I know that German brewers would banish added sugar or other sugar products in their beer, so it’s probably generous use of light roasted wheat malt I can taste. Very well balanced bitterness gives a final result for a rich and tasty dark wheat beer.

Not a real dark dunkel, more like an amber weiss. This is not taking anything away from it. It has the spicy banana clove flavor of the style and just enough dark wheat malt to balance everything perfectly. Nice aroma, Super nice mouth feel. No need for a lemon slice here but if you want to it certainly doesn’t change this weissbier. A truly fine wheat beer!

Pours dark, opaque honey golden with a thick pale buff head. Malty aroma has a fruity overtone of banana and pear plus a bready hint. Flavor has wheaty, banana, malty and pear notes. Texture is quite firm, if not very fizzy. A truly regal beer.

On tap at restaurant Dat Fischhus, Bremerhaven as König Ludwig Dunkel. Hazy red copper with off white head. Smell is sweet malty with caramel and fruit. Taste is sweet malty with nuts, choccolate and malt. Dry with medium bitterness and medium carbonation.

500ml bottle. pours cloudy lite brown, with lasting head. Malty brown sugar and clove and banana nose. Roasty, banana clove flavors. Overall not as rich and strong flavored as I would prefer. Almost a diluted flavor profile. Maybe more delicate.
