Bottle brown, 500 ml, 12 P
Appearance: Pours the most light Dunkelweizen I’ve ever seen, it reminds slightly tanned Hefeweissbier, like ’Schneiderweisse Hefeweissbier’ in body colour, mahogany brown, carbonation of the body is rather gentle, head is initially big, almost huge, untyppical for a Dunkelweizen like the body colour, head is frothy in texture, off white but almost white in colour, there is also decent lacing.
Aroma: Very similar to a plain hefeweissbier, bread, wheat, rolls, yeast, milk chockolate, whipped cream, milk, caramelly notes, toastyness, butterscotch, pronounced barley grains, flowery hoppy nose on top, cacao like in a dark chockolate, vanilla, banana, clove, quite complex and inviting, intensive, juicy.
Flavour: Typpical for a hell weissbier, dusty, slightly ashy, dull, impression of heavyness of the body but not in terms of alcohol, forgetable, wattery, neither weizen nor hefeweissbier haveing the characteristics of both styles but all in all not matching in any of those categories. Finish duration is medium and kind of flat, neutrall.
Palate: Body is medium, texture is wattery to creamy, carbonation on palate is moderate, finish feel is moderate chalky and slightly astringent with kind of not specially pleasant dull aftertaste of a sweet origin.
yalnikim (638), Wellington, New Zealand Jul 15, 2008 Tasted 09/07/2008. 500ml bottle from New World Thorndon. Pours a reddish dark brown with a brief off-white balooning light head and a light haze. Rum and raisin note to the nose, with background banana and spice. Tighter and fresher in the mouth than I expected from the nose, with just a little aged flab and oxidation. Sweetness is counterbalanced pretty well with wheat, spice and medium carbonation. Very low bitterness. Nice beer, doing well so far from home. KimJohansen (3026), Copenhagen V, Denmark Jun 2, 2008 Hazy amber with medium off white head. Aroma has toasted malt, caramel and bread. Sweet fruity flavor with toasted malt, wheat and caramel notes. Ends sweet. ChristianScheffel (2059), Odense, Denmark Jun 1, 2008 Hazy orange with a lasting egg shell white head. Weak aroma of clove and grass. Dry and fuller than the regular weizen, could get cloying in the long run. oldrtybastrd (1512), Morlautern, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany May 11, 2008 Pours a dark hazy brown color. Aromas of bread, malt, and some fruit. Flavor has a touch of sweet malt and clove, I think. Overall, not to bad.
