COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is Royal Barvarian Hefeweizen. Why are the Bavarian Royal Family and King Ludwig so important to brewing history? The Bavarian Royal Family had sole rights to brewing Hefe-Weizen on Bavaria for over 200 years. No wonder we are the leading experts on wheat beers!

(50cl bottle) Pours a large, frothy, white head and a cloudy, lightly-carbonated, lemon-coloured body. Nose is somewhat tart and yeasty with bananas and cloves. Nice, smooth mouthfeel - not too fizzy. Rather enjoyable flavour and lemony-tartness. Good.

This is quite possibly my new session wheat beer. This is perfectly balanced, with all the delictable flavors I expect, the bananas and the cloves, with some nice acidity and pepper, with some other light fruits balancing out the complexity. A great light summer time beer.

UPDATED: OCT 20, 2005 Original rating (6-3-6-3-13=3.1): Sweet banana, slight spice nose. Opaque golden orange-straw with pillowy white head. Mild banana, lemon and slight sulfur in short, dry flavour. Lively carbonation but mouthfeel is very light. Bottle (at Berlin restaurant).
Rerate (6-4-6-4-13=3.3): Strong, sweet banana and wheat aroma that is simple and enticing. Opaque yellow body with a generous and lasting, white, fine bubbled head that leaves some lace. Banana flavour is creamy with a lightly tart wheat flavour and clove-like spiciness in the finish. Crisp carbonation to the medium-light body. Sampled on tap at Charlie’s Bar in Copenhagen.

First off, this is the cloudiest/haziest weisse I have ever tried. It looks like it would be a world class beer, let’s find out. Pours great with an immense white head, sticks around for a long time. The smell is of citrus and banana, the banana redolence overpowers the citrus. Fantastic mouthfeel for a weisse, not too bubbly, nice and balanced. Flavor is great, perhaps a little on the weak side, still a decent beer. Good stuff.

Cloudy golden color with a small milky white head. Strong wheat aroma. Flavor of sweet and tart wheat, and a little spice.

Cloudy golden body is topped by an excellent white creamy head. The head lingers, but I’m a slow drinker, so it eventually fades. The aroma is strong, more cloves than some, but the banana is there. The flavor is a bit more dry than some, and more herbally and the finish is a little more bitter than most. Still, something’s lacking from the body of the flavor that keeps it from being one of the better hefeweizens.

slightly sedimented gold, with very appealing, large head. Tart wheat, bubblegum and pineapple aromas also present. very refreshing tartness, banana, bubblegum, spicy lemony citrus and drying bitterness.

American Label: Konig Ludwig. Very light tan beer, no head, no fermentation in the bottle, not the typical hefeweizen I’m used to. Smells nice and malty, and sweet. Smells great. Nice flavor but quite mild. Tastes to me like a Belgian white. Somewhat of a coriander flavor, carbonation, bubble gum/banana. Quite nice actually.

UPDATED: NOV 24, 2006 A very nice weissbier that I will stock regularly. Pours a slightly clouded orangey-gold with a frothy 2 finger cap and lots of effervescent activity in the glass. Starts with blast of tart lemon-peppery tang as the carbonation and tart hops assail the tongue and literally pummel it. Then it mellows to a medium-light body punctuated with malty sweetness and banana undertones...then a dry metallic finish...wadda beer! I like this one as a thirst buster on a warm day.
