This is Royal Barvarian Hefeweizen. Why are the Bavarian Royal Family and King Ludwig so important to brewing history? The Bavarian Royal Family had sole rights to brewing Hefe-Weizen on Bavaria for over 200 years. No wonder we are the leading experts on wheat beers!

Has the basic Hefeweizen malty-banana aroma and flavor. An ok Hefe but for an Old Country import it’s rather simplistic, with few nuances. One thing is that the carbonation is excellent (lots of tiny bubbles) and the finish is especially soft.

Well, i had a konig ludwig and i guess this is supposed to be the same beer. Anyways, this was surprisingly good. It has a really soft texture, almost creamy. Subtle bananas and spice. A lot better than I was expecting.

Pours a typical hefe color light and hazy. The aroma is not typical though, the banana, cloves and bubblegum are distant and somewhat weak. Has a spicey wheaty appeal in the flavor. Tame and a little bland. A decent summer thirst quencher.

crizay (1050) - Brook Park, Ohio, USA - AUG 9, 2005
Draught: Cloudy yellow, normal wheat spices and flavor but nothing really stood out, not very much going on here at all, just an avergage wheat beer.

Draught. Hazy yellow coloured with a white head. Fruity aroma with notes of spices and yeast. Sweet fruity flavour with notes of yeast.

A typical German Hefeweizen. This was in a brown bottle (which is not typical for many German beers) which may account for the lack of skunkiness.

UPDATED: AUG 5, 2005 Big ass white head on a murky pale yellow body. Aromas of a typical hefe, tropical fruit, gum, dough. Smooth flavor without much going on, besides the typical hefe stuff. Nothing made this stand out, but nothing detracted from it.

Bottle. Hazy yellow colour. White head. Sharp yeasty aroma with faint hoppy notes. Yeasty flavour. Watery. Boring.

Pours hazy yellow with medium white head that fades. Aroma of cloves, lemon, banana. Taste is moderate heffe-weisse, fairly smooth, not too sour with a pepper ginger character. Bit bitter in the finish but nothing lasting. Lively with a carbonation hits the tongue and leaves a fizzy mouthfell.

UPDATED: AUG 28, 2005 Pours with a frothy, thick, pale tan colored head that is easily three fingers thick. The beer is a lightly hazy bright gold color with a pretty cascade of carbonation welling up from the center of my Duvel glass. The nose has subdued aromatics of clove and banana as well as a mild, grassy grain character. The taste is light and spritzy with a zesty carbonation as it hits my tongue, though it is a bit on the low side for a Hefeweizen. This beer is quite dry with a bit of bitterness in the finish as well as a long grassy note. This beer is lightly spicy as well with a bit of pepper and ginger on the tongue. This beer is pretty tame for a German Hefeweizen, not nearly as spicy, fruity or phenolic as the best of them, almost in the vein of a bland American Wheat beer, though not quite that bad.
