4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 DocLock (6789) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 13, 2013Draft at Capone’s. Pours thick and oily and very deep black colored, with a thick brown head. Nose is choc malt, cacao, roasty, notes of anise. Tastes dense on the palate, with big roasty choc malt, cacao, walnut, and backup hop flavors. This is a great stout.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 NikkTwist (887) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 12, 2013
Draft at Khyber Pass. Opaque pour, but up to a bright light the edge shows some orange brown. Foamy brown head that left lots of lace. Burnt toast. Unsweetened chocolate. Charcoal. Cigarettes. Black coffee. Tootsie Rolls. Bit of a sweet smoky element but does not taste like a Rauchbier. Feels heavier than the medium high ABV suggests. Medium body. Seems more juicy than most stouts with this flavor profile.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 jrodooo5 (497) - Wilmington, Delaware, USA - JUN 2, 2012
Aroma is full of chocolate & a slight hint of bacon. Pours an opaque black that leaves lacing. Taste is primarily chocolate & finshes slightly bitter. Not bad at all tho I’m not getting much bacon flavor.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 7/20 philaglassfull (1) - - DEC 15, 2011 does not count
Dark, malty, sweet stout. Light smokiness and medium chocolate flavors. Little bit of bitterness at the end. A solid stout, though perhaps lacking in focus; kind of muddy flavor profile.

Thick black color with a roasted malt, dark chocolate aroma with hints of smoke. Flavor of roasted malt and chocolate with a thin smoke finish. Bacon not noted, but a very nice beer nonetheless.
3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 TreborWhip (355) - Reading, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 15, 2011
UPDATED: JUN 20, 2011 On tap at Liberty pours black with spare brown head. Aroma of burnt wood. Taste of burnt malts, chocolate, and coffee with a nice light hop finish. In my opinion I would classify this as a Rauchbier.

On tap at the Continental, where we all went for Saturday brunch during RBSG Philly. Pours a deep black with a thin tan head. Roast and light smoke, chocolate. Medium to thick body, roast, touches of smoke. Lingering smoke that develops nicely, very subtle and nicely balanced. Roast and gentle smoke, very nice.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 italarican (1046) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 10, 2011
On tap at The Continental brunch during RBSG. Very impressive presentation: served in a pint glass with a strip of bacon dipped in the beer, dangling over the edge of the glass, and a vertical split with half of the bacon covered in chocolate! Pours a thin black with minimal off-white head. Aroma was admittedly clouded by a strip of bacon sitting dipped in. Notes of roasted malt and smoke. The flavor is more subtle and mild than would be expected. Notes of dark chocolate and oak. Quite a thin, watery palate with only a slight dark chocolate finish. Not bad but subtle. Fell a bit flat.

On draft at Capones. Pours a deep brown chocolate color with a small light beige head. Aroma of chocolate, light smoke, malt and bacon. Taste of breakfast bacon, chocolate and malt. Interesting stuff. Leaves a smoky bacon aftertaste.
