COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
There is no other way to describe this beer- The Ella IPA is a hop-bomb. There are many variations within this style and Ella is a true Northwest IPA. The malt character is provided by 100% Maris Otter; a robust two-row grain malted by hand in England. Hops are Simcoe for bittering and Amarillo for aroma. Citrusy and resinous, Amarillo has become a popular choice for IPA brewers and hop-heads.

On tap at the brewpub in Pendleton, OR. Medium, muddy amber. with frothy beige head. Subdued aroma, equal part hops and malt. Malt is evident in the taste, slightly sweet, tempered with some mild hop bitterness. A gentle IPA.

On Tap at the brewpub, in Pendleton, OR. Hazy deep orange amber with a very nice lasting creamy white head. Big fresh citrus aroma, flavor is hoppy and grassy with some fumy notes of cleaner or furniture polish. Not much, but ts there. The bitterness fades quickly and the finish is pretty quick and dry.

Growler from the brewpub. Light bitterness with a funky malty sweetness in the background. Citrus and a hint of pine. Bitterness gets stronger at the finish.

On tap @ Horse Brass blind IPA tasting. This one was in the middle of the pack for me. Lots of citrus, caramel and toasty malt. The malt brings some sweetness but not overwhelming. Clean and good.

Had this at the Horse Brass blind IPA tasting, Portland, OR - Very dark, not what Id expect on an IPA taster. Watermelon candy nose. As weird as it sounds its totally pleasant. Mellow melon in the mouth is then followed by banana esters and some malty sugars. Genuinely different and a bit odd. I like it.

Pours cloudy blonde with a rich beige head and funky malt aroma. There is a full toffee flavor with a subtly bitter pine finish.

So cloudy I thought it might be a hefeweizen, though a little ruddier than the average hef, modest head. The aroma is muddles between the sweet and hops, apples and malt syrup. Chewy palate, which is not usual for IPAs. Hops come through in the flavor, with the stronger presence of sweetness lighter than caramel and yeast. balanced finish.
