COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Not for the faint of heart. True India Pale Ales had to withstand long sea voyages before slaking the thirst of cranky British troops stationed in the heat of India. Bracing, bitter, higher in alcohol. Trademark Propeller quality. A full-bodied ale for full-throttle beer lovers. Drink fresh.

Glouglouburp (6004) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - JUN 23, 2008
In short: A basic standard IPA except for an unusual fruity profile. Good beer
How: Bottles. Sample at Mondial de la Bière 2008
The look: Clear dark blonde body with a medium off-white head
In long: Welll balanced a well malted and well hopped beer. Sweetness is as much honey as it is caramel. Chewy body, a little fluffy. Fruity notes are bananas (!), peach and apricots… rather unusual fruity profile for an IPA. Medium bitterness. I liked it and I thought its weird fruity notes actually helped it to be more than just-another-IPA. A nice Nova-Scotia IPA, may not have much of a future on the global north-american market but in Halifax it probably has as much competition as an ice-cream counter in Yukon.

Bottled at Stockholm Beer Festival 2007. A hazy orange-golden beer with a lazing orangey head. The aroma is sweet with strong notes of hops and grass. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of citrus and hops as well as some notes of grass, leading to a dry an OK bitter finish.

Tasted in Toronto. Obtained at Premier in Halifax. 650ml bomber. Tasted in 500ml dimple mug. Very clear, medium fluffy white head. Typical fluffy soapy aroma, relatively light constitution, mellow and very nice.

Poured a clear deep golden color with a small white head. Sweet malt aroma with some floral ans sugary caramel notes. A little on the earthy side as well. The flavor was malty but short. The finish was semi-dry with a long bitterness from the middle to the finish.

UPDATED: JUL 20, 2008 650ml bottle. Bright golden. Incredible, smooth pillowy head. Biscuity malt overshadowed by perfumy, grassy hops. Very nice aroma. Crisp refreshing hop flavour, a very balanced bitterness. A slightly lighter body than I’d like, lacking the intensity of the hop aroma that I really want in an IPA, but it’s a delicious, balanced beer. One of my favourites in Halifax.

glennmastrange (2241) - hobe sound, Florida, USA - JAN 27, 2008
Bottle. Moderate notes of straw and nutty for the malts, moderate hop notes of perfume, pine and a little orange, light leather and soap for the yeast, and white wine and cherry in the background. Head is small, white and creamy with good lacing and is moslty diminishing. Color is clear amber. Flavor is lightly sweet and moderately acidic to start, and finishes moderately acidic and bitter. Palate is light to medium, oily and has a soft, almost flat carbonation. A good IPAwith some non-IPA characteristics. I remember this beer beer being better on draught, so I’ll have to re-rate it next time I’m at the local pub.

Thanks to JoeMcphee - my notes are a bit limited on this, but I need all the Canada ratings I can get - aroma of skunky european hoppiness, with this malt and floral notes - the flavor is quite gentle and subdued, with notes of honey and wildflower - a kind of stale hop flavor (I noted "fuggles," but perhaps not) - buttery in the finish - meh.

JoeMcPhee with the ill Canadian hook ups. I mean really, I would never get to try all this fine Canuck beer if it was not for him, thank you very much Joe (oh yeah, blame Canada). 22oz bomber pours a dark golden color. Aroma is apple-like hops with some musky-lagered aspects. Taste is a a bit thicker malt biscuit with plenty of light hoppiness.

Hazy golden color. Very nice aroma, hoppy, buttery, creamy, perfumy, fruity. Good body structure, sweet malt flavor, good hopping. Very good!

Hazy blond color. Light hoppy aroma. Nice flavor, with light malt, good toffee, lightly buttery, quite sweet. Pleasant.

Earthy hop aroma and flavor finishing with excellent hop bitterness. The malt backbone keeps this from being one dimensional yet maybe a bit thin. Not as hoppy as I’d expect for an IPA but still nice!
