Miksu (1244), Jyväskylä, Finland Oct 14, 2007 0.65 l bottle. Copper color with long lasting head. Sweetish, flowery, lemony and fruity aroma with notes of blackcurrant. Malty, bittersweet, honeyish, flowery-fruity and perfumed flavor. Nice soft carbonation. Excellent high quality IPA.
The_Jester (465), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada Aug 14, 2008 341 mL bottle. Copper-orange with a quickly diminishing head. Hops are used well for aroma, but the beer could use a little more hop flavour and bitterness. It’s a nice beer, but it just doesn’t stand up to some of the big boys. Very drinkable, though, and a useful beer for introducing others to the style. Spab (21), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 4, 2008 341 ml bottle from NSLC. Pours hazy orangey gold with a thin white head. Very strong citrus hop nose with some sweetness and a sharp hoppy taste. Soft to moderate carbonation with a bitter finish. MrManning (1429), London, Ontario, Canada Jul 1, 2008 650 ml bottle produced Sept 07. Pours hazy orange and is topped with a rocky off white cap, leaving good sticky lace. Grainy nose comes equipped with lots of fruit (pear, peaches) and caramel malts, with a touch of spiciness and pine. Tastes of sweet caramel and fruit with good bready component, leading to sharp piney hops and grapefruit. Dry, pleasant mouthfeel. Good. Thanks to my mom for the bottle. Glouglouburp (1915), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Jun 23, 2008 In short: A basic standard IPA except for an unusual fruity profile. Good beer
How: Bottles. Sample at Mondial de la Bière 2008
The look: Clear dark blonde body with a medium off-white head
In long: Welll balanced a well malted and well hopped beer. Sweetness is as much honey as it is caramel. Chewy body, a little fluffy. Fruity notes are bananas (!), peach and apricots… rather unusual fruity profile for an IPA. Medium bitterness. I liked it and I thought its weird fruity notes actually helped it to be more than just-another-IPA. A nice Nova-Scotia IPA, may not have much of a future on the global north-american market but in Halifax it probably has as much competition as an ice-cream counter in Yukon.
Ungstrup (11031), Frederiksberg, Denmark May 6, 2008 Bottled at Stockholm Beer Festival 2007. A hazy orange-golden beer with a lazing orangey head. The aroma is sweet with strong notes of hops and grass. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of citrus and hops as well as some notes of grass, leading to a dry an OK bitter finish.
