4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Amazing brew. Excellent lacing with tiny cascading bubbles; a true beaute to watch. And the mouthfeel is nice and thick in the bitter finish especially, like a wine loaded with tannins. But it all starts with the aroma with this one. One of the best i smelled in a while. Maple first with cocoa second and buttered rum close behind. Nice and roasty as well. Especially in the taste; roasty with bitter astringency, yet mellowed by a classic, natural old school sweetness. Think molasses, butterscotch; not the shite kind, but the old fashioned homemade pure stuff.
PS: I noticed the fall season in Ontario developed a unified surge of pumpkin beer all the way. Now in the winter, it’s imperial stouts. And it’s much better! And so far this my fave.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from the Liquor Store on PEI
Pours a solid black color with a huge frothy tan head that persists forever. Vinous chocolate fudge and caramel maltiness dominate the aroma. Light earthy floral round out the nose. The flavor is rich thick chocolate caramel and roast with quite a vinous fruity edge to it. Light smoke and earth round us out nicely. Medium body with a light level of carbonation and a rich creamy ashy mouthfeel. Wow thats a pretty nice stout right there! Reminds me a lot of Bell’s Expedition, I really enjoyed this.

Maybe it’s just me but I really enjoy when the head on a dark beers hangs around for a bit. This one’s didn’t but it was still a great beer. Quite bliggity black, this one, an aroma of coffee, maple, roasty chocolate malt and brown sugar. It’s quite boldly bitter at first with a strong molasses kick but leaves the tongue basking in a light sweet finish. Fairly oily feel to a medium thick body. Very enjoyabeer.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20
I was excited about this one, and it didn’t let me down. Poured black with creamy tan head. Stunk of coffee, nuts, and molasses. Tasted of big molasses, strong coffee, and brown sugar. Had copious amounts of big boozy warmth. Had a heavy oily body that coats your tongue with a bitter aftertaste. Great brew.

Noir sombre avec une mousse moyenne marron. L’arôme à plein de café. Onctueux en bouche avec un goût intense de café avec du malt torréfié et une finition d’amertume moyenne.

500ml bottle into a pint glass. Pours a deep black with a light tan head. Hefty roasty malt aroma overwhelms, with a hint of coffee and a bit of tire. Sweet maltiness with some coffee and dried fruits. Dry and sticky on the palate. Very warming and enjoyable.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Very, very dark brown, almost black, with a khaki head. Heavy on the roasted malt aromas with some dark fruit, licorice, and coffee. Dark chocolate, burnt sugar, and a hint of molasses. The flavor is a touch bitter, but has a lot of sweetness from the burnt sugar, licorice, and molasses. Big roasted malt and coffee, some dark chocolate, and a touch of alcohol.

his beer was born for greatness. Sent by English brewers via the Baltic Sea to the court of the Czars, Russian Imperial Stout was brewed to very high gravities and allowed to ferment on the long voyage. The result? A dark, strong and bracing brew, imbibed by Peter, adored by Catherine and now reclaimed by you, the People. Za Vas!
