aerosol999 (113), Quebec, Canada Oct 2, 2007 Appearance: no head, opaque and black. Low head but what there is of it is tan brown.
Aroma: Berry esters, licorice, and chocolate covered cherries.
Flavour: Dutch cacao, alcohol, coffee less fruity than the aroma, finishes suprisingly dry and bready. Biscuity and lots of black malt character.
Mouthfeel: Full thick body with light carbonation. Creamy and mouth coating.
Overall: Very nice, finishes dry for an Imperial stout but I like it better this way. Not cloying with a great roasty black malt character. Alcohol gives the finish a long roasty hang and a warming sensation that rises up from the belly.
DuffMan (1935), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Aug 24, 2008 Deep, near-black brown, modest brown head. Very roasty burnt malt aroma, with coffee and ash standing out, and some pruney elements coming forward as it warms. Palate is very roasty, with coffee and burnt malt dominating, and an underlying fruit-acid sweetness adding a touch of character. Finish is moderately bitter, considering a beer of this size. Not terribly complex, but delicious regardless. Retorp (2158), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 18, 2008 Courtesy of Quake1028. The aroma holds acetone, dark fruit, alcohol fumes, dark chocolate and chocolate liqueur. The body is full black with a diminishing mocha head. Big roasted malt, chocolate in the fore. A little stale in the middle. Mild oxidization. Hint of soy. Mostly just chocolatey and smooth though with burnt malt accents.
railcat1 (488), Hammond, Indiana, USA May 15, 2008 This pours a black oily black with a nice thick brown head and a taste of sweet chocolate and roasted malts overall a nice drinkable IPS and well balanced and complex.CHEERS! rudolf (1554), Buffalo, New York, USA Apr 25, 2008 Bottle from Greg, Thanks!. Essentially black, a small amount of deep ruby light shines through around the edges. Tan head. Nose is huge rich malt, some soy qualities, hops are solid but not forward. Flavor is caramel & toffee, a bit of chocolate. Dusty malt comes in after a moment, along with tingly hops to balance the sweetness. A bit milky which is strange in the context of the other flavors. I don’t taste the alcohol but I can feel it on my tongue.
