Crisp resinous nose, burnt copper hue, clean dry mouth, light nut, raisin, toffee malt base, spicy herbal mid tones, citrus and pepper hightlights with a lingering piney dry finish.

First sahti beer ever. 750ml bottle, bees waxed cap. Pours an amber color with a huge white, rocky head. Aromas of sweet banana and honey. Taste is semi sweet with no apparent bitterness. No alcohol detected. Flavors of banana pudding. Finishes sweet and very banana like, with perhaps a touch of juniper and milk. Really like this style of rew.

Red brown pour big tan head that stays. Aroma of barnyard yeast tang caramel pine. Tastes big malt, caramel, herbal, grass, honey. Yeasty creaminess to palate. Tastes a bit hot and acidic. Good, but too much malt for my tastes.

Bottle, shared with Parksy and Grippitis. Medium amber body, average tan head. Caramel with spicy notes and mild herbal character, woody undertones, slightly medicinal. Intriguing, but suffering a bit from lack of substance.

Bottle:   Deep dirty caramel, thick, large foamy sandy head, nice lacing.   Bright herbal nose, a little spicy, touch of pepper and lemongrass.   Creamy but yet a little spritzy.   Bright up front, but a little mealy in the back.   Richer than most Sahti beers I have had, and way more interesting.   Body and mouthfeel are fairly creamy.   Finish is a bit mealy tho.   Smells great, tastes great, but the finish with that mealy aspect detracts just a bit.   Still a very enjoyable beer, and better than expected!

On tap at Belmont. Pours a clear copper color with a medium white head. A big Belgian yeast nose, almost bubblegum-like, some lemons. The flavor is mostly banana yeast-inspired fruit, some light spices, evergreen, some sweeter caramel. Light citrus and pine. Decent. Interesting.

A steady pour into my New Belgium globe glass produces a two-finger thick, light tan colored head. The beer is a concentrated amber color that shows an almost clear, light amber hue when held up to the light. The aroma smells of bright berry notes (almost like dried blueberries), as well as some light, woody, spicy, juniper notes. There is a soft, supporting, straw like, raw whole grain character here that provides an earthy background note to the dominant juniper character. There is a peppery, musty, earthy spiciness, and a woody herbal note in the nose that really helps to balance the juniper berry character.

Light yet has a full mouth-feel to it without really being viscous, the beer also has a rye laden, earthy, spicy, grain character to it that lingers in the finish. The texture is almost creamy, but there is a solid carbonation here that providesa bit of textural difference. Juniper berry like flavors up front are not as prominent as in the nose, but the finish has more of the juniper spiciness. There is a bitterness in the finish that melds with the dry, woody, herbal note. Soft raisin like maltiness is brought out by the juniper, and there is a rounded, caramelized malt character that melds with a toasted, brown grain, chewy bread / cracker character that is in the middle of this beer.

This is a really nice beer, one that I am enjoying a lot more than I thought I would; most Sahtis are pretty boring to me, but this one has a complexity from the malt and fermentation character that makes this quite appetizing.

Bottle. Cloudy amner brown color, large bubble whitebhead. Aroma of herbs, spice, spruce. Taste is light spice, toffee, booze. Interesting.

Pours deep copper, almost mahogany, gigantic off white head. Smell fruit and spice, winter warmer, very grainy. Taste rooty, fruity, vegital. Amber like qualities but stronger, sweeter. Medium body. Not sure where this stacks up style wise.

Bottled 10/2013 Pours a murky amber with a solid fine sheet of light amber foam. Smells of co2, spruce, juniper, some gin character obviously. Flavor is plenty belgian with lots of yeast, some juniper and a good amount of what tastes like rosemary. I’m not so big on the amount of yeast character here. Medium on full bodied with soft, prickly carb and a semi dry finish. Decent beer, but not the most impressive from them.
