Bottle: Fiery straw, thin to moderate frothy white head, spotty lacing. Wow, fresh pencil shavings and red pepper flake on the nose. Can’t say I get all the spices listed in the description. Its been a while since I have gotten fresh pencil shavings, but this is one of them. Not as #2 woody on the tongue, soft herbal notes, rose hip, with soft red pepper flake. Body and mouthfeel are moderate. A little tart, a little dry, but not really coming across as any Pumpkin Ale that I have ever had. Certainly the spices aren’t there that I associate with Pumpkins. Interesting beer to say the least, and one that reminds me of grade school. I think you know why... Sorry, but this one is not all that complex when it comes to spices.

In a word, herbally stunning. Strong herb aroma, which follows thru in a fresh way in taste. Not sure if I've had a more herb-oriented brew. Base beer is solid, and picking up pumpkin notes at the end. An interesting brewer I'm glad I have access to. Definitely A-

A steady pour into my New Belgium globe glass produces an almost two-finger thick, pale tan colored head. The beer is a concentrated, ruddy amber color that shows a hazy, orange-amber hue when held up to the light. The aroma smells of pumpkin pie spices, dark fruit notes of raisins, and some herbal and pumpkin like edges towards the finish. There seems to be a touch of woody herbal notes in the finish as well as a hint of tartness as well. As the beer warms up a more toasted, and a cracker like an bready character.
The beer is dry, and a touch tart as it moves across the tongue. There is an earthy, almost smokiness here in the finish, as well as a bit of astringency that leaves a woody, spicy character that lingers a bit on the palate. Rounded spice notes accentuated savory character in this beer rather than the usual sweetness that one finds in pumpkin pie. Woody ginger, woody black pepper, cinnamon like notes, earthy nutmeg, and even some clove like notes that linger in the finish with some phenolic spiciness. Toasted, malty cracker like notes, brown bready notes, and even some caramelized, nutty malt notes that don’t contribute to the sweetness. The body has a medium fullness to it, but it is still quite quaffable. There is perhaps a touch of bell pepper like character, and a bit of squash character.
A pretty nice beer actually; I really like that this pumpkin beer is dry, and more savory than the usual sweet overly spiced ones that you get on the market. I really like the mix of spices, malt, savory base character, light pumpkin / squash character, and supporting yeast character.

Draft. Hazy golden color, small white head. Aroma of funky gourd. Taste is funky too, lots of gourd and no or little spice.
