Pours a finger of tan head on a dark brown body. The aroma is roasted malt and cocoa. The taste is roasted malt, mild coffee with a touch of chocolate. The texture is smooth with low carbonation. It’s quite tasty and complex.

Bottle. Dark chestnut, creamy golden-brown. Almond, salt licorice light roast aromatics. Surprisingly full and chewy, mellow mouthfeel. Roast grains, licorice, light grassy notes. Bordering a porter, delicious.

Cask @ The Angel, Manchester. A dark mild, not black, with a thin head. There’s some roasted malt in its nose, but very little in taste, however it’s has a very palatable texture.

Cask @ Magpie ..brentford. a textbook Mild . Dark brown ,with subtle beige . Nose suggests roast malt _this shows on the palate with chocolate notes. .berry fruit tart vibes . Rich palate, slight dry finish. A pretty good dark ale!

Hardly any aroma. Looks like it should have a smell because it's really dark in colour. Has a slight chocolatey taste but the taste doesn't live up to the colour. A sheep in wolf's clothing. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On cask at Hare and Hounds, Padiham - Not a bad one to rack up your 1000th rate. Deep black body, thick lacing beige head. Lots of roasted notes coming through, coffee, dark chocolate, a little thin on the taste but backs it up with a nice rich smoky finish. Very enjoyable really.

Cask at Battersea Beer Festival, 9th Feb 2011. Deep brown, zero head. Roasted nose and flavour. Nice but a bit by the numbers. Not much beyond the caramel taste and light palate.

Cask, 3.9%. Roasted aroma. Very dark brown colour, clear, red/brown shine. Frothy light brown head, quite stable though. The flavour starts off with a fruity sweetness. Later, it turns nutty in a sweet hazelnut way.
