This had just gone on and was hit by the waiting hordes, seemed to be popular. Nice, dry roasty malts filling up the background flavours with yes, a nutty bitter flavour to the fore. I must say, i am enjoying Mild May this year, there have been some good ones to try.

UPDATED: MAR 13, 2012 Bottle filtered - Dark brownish/black with a light ruby tint to it and a frothy lasting tan thick head. Smell of roasted malt,smoke, coffee and chocolate, Medium smooth body with a light fiz and long bitter finish. Smooth taste of bitter roast caramel malt, smoke and coffee. Lasting bitter ash taste. Nice solid ale.

Cask at Battersea Beer Festival, 9th Feb 2011. Deep brown, zero head. Roasted nose and flavour. Nice but a bit by the numbers. Not much beyond the caramel taste and light palate.

Cask, 3.9%. Roasted aroma. Very dark brown colour, clear, red/brown shine. Frothy light brown head, quite stable though. The flavour starts off with a fruity sweetness. Later, it turns nutty in a sweet hazelnut way.

On cask (handpump) at Great British Beer Festival, day 3 on 6 August 2009. Handsome dark colour. Decent sweetish mild. Some fruit. Some nuts. Some light roast notes. Hints of chocolate. Touches of licorice. Lots in it for a mild. Easy-drinking but by no means dull.

Cask@Derby Beer Festival 2010. Pale black beer with a strongish head. The aroma is milky and roasted and the flavour is roasted and sweetly bitter. Overall an average sweetly roasted and bitter beer.

Cask, Derby Fest 10. Very dark brown with a bubbly beige foam. Aromas are coffee, caramel and weetabix. Cream with liquorice and some nuttiness. Some hints of dark berry fruits. Flavours are sweetened coffee and chocolate with light blackberry. Smooth on the palate with a dry finish. A tasty mild.

Cask-conditioned at the Portcullis, Clifton, Bristol 8/07/10. Near black with a frothy, off-white head. Roast malts, a touch of milk chocolate and hazelnut, with some dark fruit and slow, bitter finish. Very easy drinking and enjoyable.

Cask at Marble Arch, Manchester. A dark red beer with a lazing tan head. The aroma has primary notes of roasted malt. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of roasted malt as well as lighter notes of soy sauce. A bit light, but nice.
