Our very harmoniously flavored and spicy-malty Jubiläumsdunkel lights in a beautiful mix of night-dark tones, combined with a dark maroon. This very juicy and mild beer impresses with its richness and its pleasant, not too intense sweetness. Subtle toasty aromas round out each sip.

500ml bottle [[as Bayerisch Dunkel] Another regional gem kindly catered by Maddie - thank you very much again!]. Clear, chestnut colour with ruby glimmer and average to huge, frothy, diminishing, minimally lacing, off-white head. Dark malty aroma, hints of malt lozenge, some malt spiciness with hints of chicory in homoeopathic dosis, mild hoppy overtones with a waxy grassy touch. Taste is minimally dry dark malty, slightly nuttily, minimally toasty, subtle sweetness with a touch of malt lozenge; soft and creamy palate.

(bottle) clear deep ruby-amber colour with a frothy light-beige head. aroma of herbal hops, haystacks and some chlorine, with a hint of vanilla, cherry syrup and wax. flavour is mostly grainy roasted malts and butter, with heavy notes of toffee, some light sugar icing and treebark. medium-bodied with average carbonation.

UPDATED: MAY 28, 2015 Flasche („Bayerisch Dunkel“, 50 cl) von Fizzz, Regensburg. - Tiefes Kastanienbraun, klar.

Nice dunkel after some time. Pours darl coppery or dark, clear brown with beige, dark top, small one. Aroma- intense malty with dominant toasted note, no roast touch. Low to none hops aroma. Taste was medium sweet, light to min bitter, more from darker malts. Light dry finish, more than average carbonation, sour, sugary aftertaste, medium- body. Watery texture. Good start, not so well finish.

My Bottom Line:
Nuts and toffee thrive in a velvety mouthfeel, as light minerality and hops color the finish.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam sits atop the attractive mahogany.
-Carbonation is once again a tad excessive in this tap version.
-This is as good as their Palmator Doppelbock, but it is obviously more drinkable.
-Malts are well defined throughout.

On tap at the brewery.

Bottle, says 5.0%. Sweet, malty, but there are some hops here, even some roasted malt that adds a spectrum of flavours. But subtle is the right word.

I have 2 from Prösselbräu Adlersberg. The first one up is the Bayerisch Dunkel. Dezente Röstaromen runden jeden einzelnen Schluck ab. alc. 5,0% vol Stammwürze 12,5 % Above it states: "Our very harmonic, tasty and spicy-malty anniversary Dunkel is lit in a wonderful mix of dark-as-night tints, paired with a dark chestnut brown. This very drinkable and mild beer convinces with its full mouthfeel and its pleasant , not too intensive sweetness. Decent roasted/toasted aroma rounds out every mouthful." Bunch of marketing-speak, but you got the idea. It’s also a Brauereigasthof, or brewery-inn and hotel. Looks nice but in the Qype (Yelp in Europe) reviews, it got lots of low ratings, mostly for terrible service and horrible food, it seems,... but no one complained about the beer. Now the beer. Yes, as they say, it’s dark, chestnut brown with hints of orange under a vanilla-white head. The aroma is almost all malts, toasted, roasted malts and Vienna or Münchener malts, too, and virtually almost no hop aroma. I like the full mouthfeel, thick; it rolls over the tongue slowly. In the front you get a small hint of tartness and on the sides a hint of bitterness. The aftertaste, however, is where you taste that THIS a Märzen. In the back you get full-on malty sweetness, which is strong but not too intense, as they mentioned above. It’s roasted and toasty in a typical Bayerische Märzen, so nothing unique here. Nonetheless, it’s a very süffiges Bier, making it easy to drink and a joy to swirl around the mouth. It’s a great beer but not WOW, almost the standard of what I’d use if someone wanted me to define a Märzen. It’s not really better or worse than the other Märzen I’ve tried from Regensburg, but it may be the best balanced and easiest to drink. Personally, I would’ve like a tad more hops in it. As an aside, I’d love to taste some Mandarina or other hops that have a grapefruit flavor mixed in with this beer. I bet they the sweet maltiness would complement those hops wonderfully. I don’t brew with Lager yeast, but I can imagine brewing a beer like that.
