Really tasty! Lots of brand cereal and toasted malt in the aroma. Taste is roasted malt with some cereal over tones--think total cereal. The balance of sweetness and roasted malt is spot on... finish is a lingering toasted flavor. Nice!

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Cloudy auburn brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of wheat, nuts, and caramel. Nutty and malty taste. A bit bland and watery but not too bad.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Tap in pseudo pint glass at New Bohemia. Dark amber/brown color. Minor but ever present head. Aroma is more malt than hefe with a subtle roasted presence. Taste is refreshing with the caramel and toffee qualities you typically find in a dunkel. Finish is nearly coffee bitter and I’m not very pleased that it went that direction. I feel like this beer doesn’t know what it wants to be which translates to a not very good option. This is on the lower end of the dunkelweiss spectrum.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tap. Malty, sweet lager with excellent drinkability and a really full body. Hints of caramel, toffee, and nuttiness in the body that finishes sweet but clean.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
January 29th, 2013 - Here’s another lager that shows off Prost’s capable brewmasters and team members. Generally I like Dunkelbiers, being flavorful and quenching at the same time, but this is an exceptional example of what the style can do with some attention and talent. The smell has lots of that caramelized sugar smell, replete with caramel and toffee, and dusted with all-spice and clove, giving it a sweet and spicy sensation. The body is predictably clean and clear, with a light brown sugar flavor, molasses, and a sweet BBQ sauce touch that I love. It’s deep and complex and well balanced, which is often precarious when the palate can be on the light side, and the flavor the dark side.

2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
12 oz bottle with a enjoy by date that’s barely legible. I think it says 10/29/14. Murky brown pour with no head. Even when I swirl the glass, barely a wisp of a head appears. Malty as expected, with hints of bananas, and acetaldehyde. Eh. Watery and undercarbonated as well. Messy.

2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Head is initially small, fizzy, light brown, full diminishing.
Body is dark amber.
Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain/bread, caramel), with light notes of gum and grape jelly.
Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter, unclean.
Medium body, watery/syrupy texture, lively carbonation.
A pretty sad rendition...not much aroma at all, and the gummy, jelly-like aspects are unpleasant. Dirty and bland in the mouth, syrupy, poor carbonation...all in all quite a failure. America really needs more truly great German lager brewers, but unfortunately it appears Prost is never going to be in that category. Frustrating.
