COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This is a dark amber lager made in the world famous brewing area around Bamberg, Germany. They are characterized by their smooth malty flavor. The Franconian version differs from the dark lagers of Bavaria by being slightly stronger and drier. Dunkels have a distinctive malty flavor that comes from a special brewing technique called decoction mashing. We are reviving the Altfränkisches Dunkel Bier from the Hümmer Brauerei in Breitengüßbach, the brewery whose brewhouse now resides in Denver, Colorado at Prost Brewing.

On tap @ Prost. Pours a clear copper/light brown pour with an off-white head. Nutty, toasted aroma. Nice malt sweetness, some toffee, and a touch of chocolate. Flavor is toasted nuts, chocolate, and toffee. Nice chewy, sweet, toasted malt, too. Pretty nice.

Tastes more nutty than a belgian-style ale should in my opinion. Hint of licorice. No head, but good carbonation bite. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Dark amber in color hazy with a thin head. Nice dark wheat beer with tons of roasty flavors and finish. Nice caramel and hops flavors. This was most excellent.

Slightly cloudy dark amber with a thin sticky white head. Nice aroma of syrupy earthy toast malt and a touch of earthy caramel and wheat bread dough. Flavor has a nice sweetness with bread dough tones and toast with some light caramel and chewy dark wheat notes.

Tap at brewery. Clear dark amber with a thin laceful head. Aroma is dark malty sweet with some light chocolate and earthy toffee coming through, with just a touch of caramel. Flavor is much the same, sweet and dark malty, with all the delightfulness from the nose, but with an added biscuitiness from the yeast.

Ok. Definitely malty but the flavor seemed a little watered down. Wasn't overly impressed. I've had better dunkels. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Growler, shared with Gabe. Pours a thick, poorly retained, light beige head, with minimal lacing, over a clear brown (SRM 35) body......nose is roasted malts, with hints of cinnamon, brown sugar.....taste is semi-dry with roasted malts, including cocoa, light chocolate, nuttiness, finishing with a light cocoa bitterness....mouth feel light, carbonation low. This meets the style quite nicely, with appropriate malt forwardness and lovely complexity. BJCP 8/3/14/4/7

Tap at Prost. Pours clear brown with a medium frothy off-white head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is caramel, cookie and toast malt with dates and figs. Flavor is malt dominant with dark fruits and a dry finish. Light body and carbonation.

Believe Prost brews this just for El Camino, on 32nd in Denver. German dark lager...think the brown Dos Equis but good. Nice toffee nose, dark brownish red with persistent thin head. Medium malty texture with a lot of sweet toffee and caramel and some dark fruit, but solid hoppy balance...I know this reads like a winter warmer or something but more like a sweet brown. Solid offering. Stay thirsty, my Denverites.
