2.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20
January 29th, 2013 - Prost’s Doppelbock is the only sample of brew from this lager obsessed brewery that I didn’t like. In fact, I couldn’t even drink it. Soy sauce and teriyaki join to make the aroma, and appear in the taste too - the beer, carbonated version of teriyaki sauce, and not in any good or appealing way. Each sip brings all the "wrongness" of chugging a marinade straight from the bottle, and I am quickly drawn to the previous samplers to cleanse my palate.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap at brewery and from growler. Poured into an Aventinus glass. Pours brown with large head and lace. Aroma of rich malts, caramel, brown sugar. Medium carbonation and mouthfeel. Flavors of brown malts, caramel, slight toffee, banana, toast, molasses. Overall very flavorful and easy drinking...not as rich as an Aventinus, but worthy of buying a rather expensive growler refill if you enjoy this style.

On tap at the brewery. Pour is deep amber with a small tan head and good lacing. Caramel, dark fruity, toffee, bready, slightly toasty, and raisins in the aroma. Taste is red licorice, brown sugar, slightly grassy, caramel, toasted bread, figs, and toffee. Medium body with high carbonation. Ok.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at Colorado Plus. Deep amber/copper and clear with minimal head. Aroma and flavor is rich and malty with caramel, toffee, honey, molasses, earthy, light bitter hops and a touch of smoke. Sweet flavor hides the alcohol well.

2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
Tap @ Prost in a cool mug. Pours a deep orange/brown, clear appearance with a frothy brown head. Caramel, rich toffee, lightly buttery, fairly sweet aroma. Weird fruity, brown sugar, candy sugar, caramel, somewhat buttery, slightly juicy, a bit metallic, strange flavor. Off in many ways and a serious let down. I couldn’t finish my $7.25 glass (or even half of it).

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Edit (when this beer warms up, it gets seriously alcoholic and a light.hint of DMS comes through - fuck me) Dimpled mug at the brewery - clear dark amber -frothy off-white head -nose is fairly authentic - moderate melanoidin qualities, toffee, a bit of roasted nuts, very light hop note - fairly creamy texture -no apparent alcohol until a slightly warm finish - caramelized sugars, raisin, a light tartness, slight pumpernickel and rye bread in the finish -no noticeable flaws, which some of their more recent beers have exhibited -I like it.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
Tap at Prost. Clear nutty amber with a pillowy beige head. Nose was malty and kinda maple-y with an earthy toffee undertone. Flavor was dark and sweet with a maple-like tone, and biscuity booziness. Molasses notes as well. Kinda weird.
