12 oz bottle into a pint glass. A: Pours a dark copper color - itís even a bit darker than I expect from most IPAs. The head forms a two-finger offwhite shade, and features a soft creaminess. Retention isnít great, though, but thereís some nice lacing left down the glass. S: I really donít get much hops here. The hoppiness I do detect, however, is quite pleasant, with notes of mango and grapefruit. This really strikes me as malty - and not the good kind either, more of the "way too much crystal malt" kind. As such, caramel and toffee abound. T: Slight citrusy hops flash themselves on the palate at first. However, itís quickly washed away by tons of caramel, toffee, marzipan, and nutty flavors. Spicy, herbal hops return on the back end. Iím never a huge fan of these "pine-and-crystal-malt" IPAs, and this one in particular is too sweet. M: This feels bigger than it really is, and thatís not quite a compliment. Itís heavy-feeling on the palate and goes down (relatively) slowly due to lazy carbonation. Itís a bit softer/less coarse than I expected from this kind of IPA, however. O: Itís just too malty for me. A very average beer: itís reasonably well made yet forgettable, with a definite íplease the massesí vibe to it. I wouldnít buy it again with so many great IPAs on the market.

Bottle. Pours a clear copper body under a small fizzy off-white head that faded to a wispy film. The nose is pretty heavy on the crystal malt, it outweighs the hops by a good margin in the aroma. What hops are in here are slightly floral in nature. The flavor pretty well mimics the aroma as far as the hop-malt balance goes. Hard to think of this as an IPA when the hops are second fiddle to the malt. Lots of sweet crystal and caramel malt up front and a lingering brown sugar note after the lightly bitter hops fade. Medium bodied and a bit clingy with fizzy soft carbonation. Not the kind of IPA Iím looking for.

Poured from 12 oz. bottle at Donna's in Charles Village, Baltimore, MD. Clear, medium-dark amber with a fluffy off-white head and very good lacing. Aroma of grapefruit, pineapple, sweet lemon, mango, orange and malt. Taste of orange, pineapple, mango, crystal malt, grass and grapefruit. Medium/full body and medium carbonation. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

lamas (1360) - Washington DC, USA - OCT 12, 2013
Bottle. A clear copper pour with a smallish beige head. Grapefruits, oranges, sour lemons, plenty of zesty citrus rinds, resiny pine, and a fair amount of caramel maltiness feature prominently in the aroma. Thin to medium-bodied on the way down. Some crisp caramel maltiness starts things off taste-wise. Semi-sweet cereal grains and a biscuity breadiness follow. Grapefruits, lemon zest, and lots of citrus rinds at the tail-end. Finishes bitter with a lingering dryness. Not bad at all.

Small, tan head with fair retention and some spotty lace. Dark copper/amber colored brew. Nose of middlin sweet malts, lightly spicy and ever so lightly citrus notes. Medium bodied with a soft carbonation, lil chewy which i dont usually expect in my IPA,s.Sweet malts with little to no balancing bitterness, some pine flavors, caramel and earth. Lightly sweet finish and i,m not finding any real bitterness to write home about. Bottle from statelineliquors.

Public Works Knuckle-Buster IPA: Simply put, a fine beer. Goes down smooth with a lingering bitterness that just won't quit. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
